Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Spong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sammy Kodjia!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Donald Grub and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kodjia scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Spong doesn't seem bothered though.
Spong throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kodjia misses with a straight left.

Spong fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kodjia sprawls well initially but Spong persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kodjia is trying to stand back up but Spong is controlling him
Spong throws a strike but Kodjia avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Spong throwing strikes from guard but Kodjia blocks nicely.
Spong stops Kodjia from standing up.
Spong throws a big elbow that misses.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Spong accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spong forces his way into half guard.
Kodjia keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Spong wants to take a breather but Kodjia is having none of it.
Spong drops an elbow to the side of Kodjia's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spong takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

It looks like Sammy Kodjia has been cut.
Spong has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kodjia kicks Spong off and gets back to his feet.
Kodjia just misses with a punch to the body.

Spong fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kodjia sprawls well initially but Spong persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Spong lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Spong missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kodjia is trying to stand up here but Spong is controlling him well.
Spong tries to pass to full mount but Kodjia defends it.
Kodjia avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Spong.
Spong not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kodjia is trying to stand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Spong wants to control but Kodjia is keeping him busy.
Spong passes to full mount!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Spong throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Kodjia because Spong loaded up on that one.
Spong thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
You get the feeling that Kodjia really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Spong trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Spong is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kodjia is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Spong lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Kodjia hang on?
Kodjia is squirming around, avoiding Spong's attempts to control the action.
Spong lands a couple of good shots and Kodjia has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Sammy Kodjia's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Sammy Kodjia's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Daniel Spong!
During a confident post fight interview, Daniel Spong thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
