PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darren Millar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maksim Pankratev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pankratev has chosen Last of the Mohicans Theme as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Maksim Pankratev will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Darren Millar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Maksim Pankratev!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Millar shoots in and drives through. Pankratev sprawls well.

Millar decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Well, if Millar is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Millar is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pankratev sees it coming and defends easily.
Pankratev is trying to stand up here but Millar is controlling him well.

Millar uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pankratev.
Pankratev stalks Millar and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Millar's face. Millar staggers backwards, shaken.
Pankratev scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Pankratev lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pankratev tries to bum rush Millar with a series of wild strikes but Millar uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Pankratev has closed the distance and engaged Millar in a clinch.
Pankratev wants to break the clinch but can't.
Millar keeps control of Pankratev as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Pankratev wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Millar is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Pankratev can't fight it off and eventually Millar manages to take the fight to the floor. Pankratev looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Pankratev flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Millar drops an elbow to the side of Pankratev's head.
Pankratev wants to control but Millar is keeping busy.
Millar looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Millar looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pankratev pushes Millar off looking to stand but Millar dives back in and keeps control.

Pankratev tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Millar was well out of range. Poor timing from Pankratev.

Millar shoots in looking for a takedown. Pankratev tries to sprawl out of it but Millar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pankratev manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Millar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pankratev but Pankratev pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Maksim Pankratev seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Pankratev misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Pankratev throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Pankratev is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Millar rather than just go for the knockout.
Pankratev circles away from the clinch attempt.
Millar gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Pankratev drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Millar is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Pankratev asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pankratev lands a nice forearm strike.

Millar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
