PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kong Wu (ranked 4270 p4p, 4947 weight class) and Teem Reem (ranked 434 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kong Wu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Teem Reem!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Russell Pearce and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reem shoots in and drives through. Wu sprawls well.
Reem shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wu but Wu pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Wu connects with the punch.
Reem leaves Wu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Wu throws a low kick but it's checked well by Reem.
Wu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Wu tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Reem paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Wu fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Reem on the side of the head.
Reem looks to land a combination but Wu avoids it well.
Kong Wu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circling - Reem throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Reem on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wu misses with a head kick.
Reem closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wu circles away.
Kong Wu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Teem Reem.

Wu rushes Reem and presses him up against the cage.
Wu is trying to pull guard but Reem turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Wu manages to break the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A big right from Wu misses.

Horrible takedown attempt by Reem or perhaps it was just good defense by Wu, which made it look bad.
Wu misses with a body shot.

Wu gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Reem jumps guard but Wu stands there with Reem around his waist. Reem gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Reem gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Wu.
Wu tries to work over Reem's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Reem escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Wu pushes Reem up against the cage in a clinch.

Wu jumps guard.
Reem would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Reem trying to control but Wu is working from the bottom.
Wu has control of Reem's left arm, preventing Reem from doing any damage.

Wu working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Reem.

Reem controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Wu doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wu looking for a sweep. Not yet Wu, not yet.
Reem with a flurry of punches that miss.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Wu throws a shot from downtown. Reem moves away and avoids it.
Reem throws a right and a left that both miss.
Reem misses with a double jab.
Wu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Reem sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wu somewhat.

Reem throws a right and a left that both miss.
Wu avoids a punch combination nicely.
Reem takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Reem fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Wu shoots in for a takedown but Reem shows good takedown defense.
Reem fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Wu scores with a shot to the body.
Reem looks winded!
Wu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Reem sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wu somewhat.

Reem rushes Wu and presses him up against the cage.
Wu tries to score a body lock takedown but Reem shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Reem is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Wu is defending well.
Wu goes for a takedown attempt but Reem pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Reem tries to clinch but Wu is having none of it.
Wu misses with a body shot.
Wu tries to close the distance and clinch up but Reem swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Wu shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wu was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Reem is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Reem keeps trying to improve his position.
You can see the frustration on Reem's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Reem is looking for a sweep.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kong Wu dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Reem misses with a wild combination.
Wu lands a head shot.
Reem ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Reem is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Reem shoots in for a takedown but Wu shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Wu seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Reem misses with a wild combination.

Reem has taken the fight to the clinch.
The referee calls for Wu to work.
Reem wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Wu has him pressed against the cage.

Reem wants to control from the top but Wu keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reem prevents Wu from getting back to his feet.
Wu throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Reem postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Reem seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Kong Wu is winning the standup battle so far.

Wu gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Reem is working Wu over against the cage.
Wu trying to control the position but instead, Reem has worked for underhooks and has pushed Wu into the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Reem breaks from the clinch.
Reem swats away the attempt to clinch by Wu.
Wu scores with a jab to the body.
Wu avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Reem has a takedown stuffed.
Wu lands with a kick to the temple. Reem shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Wu is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Reem can do to turn this around?
Reem tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Wu defends well and Reem ends up having to push Wu into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kong Wu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Teem Reem.

Reem has managed to clinch.
Wu has Reem pushed against the cage.
Reem drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Wu gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Reem is breathing heavily.

Wu scores with a shot to the side of Reem's head.
Wu is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Reem to keep the fight standing.
Wu is trying to drag Reem to the mat but Reem just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Reem tries to break the clinch but Wu is controlling the position.

Reem gets control of Wu's arms and successfully pulls guard. Reem will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Wu loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Wu throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Reem works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wu trying to control the position from guard on top but Reem is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wu wants to control from the top but Reem keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Wu avoids the head kick by Reem.
Reem tries to clinch up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Reem breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Teem Reem is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Reem has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Wu finds it's way round the side to connect with Reem's head.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Reem.
Wu throws a right hand that Reem ducks under and follows up with a left that Reem also avoids with ease.
Wu wants to clinch up but Reem keeps it at a distance.
Wu lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Reem tries to clinch up.
Wu connects with a crisp jab.
Reem takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
No luck for Reem with that takedown attempt.

Wu throws a head kick that misses.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wu throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Wu scores with a sloppy right hand. Reem should have avoided that one.

Reem tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Wu throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Reem stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Wu lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Wu shoots in and drives through. Reem sprawls well.
Wu misses the shot to the body.

Reem closes the distance and clinches.
Reem has had enough of the clinch but Wu keeps him there for the moment.

Wu breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Wu misses with a wild body shot.

Reem tries to keep at a distance but Wu has taken the fight into the clinch.

Wu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Wu stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wu wants it to stay on the feet.
Reem lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
The fighters circle momentarily. Wu darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Wu lands with a right hand.
Reem throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Reem's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Wu connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Reem scrambles back to his feet.
Wu punishes Reem's body with a nice straight punch.
Wu dodges the punch combination from Reem.
Reem throws a right and a left that Wu avoids nicely.

Wu darts in and clinches Reem up against the cage.
Wu is pushing Reem up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Wu pulls guard effortlessly.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Reem tries to stand but Wu is controlling from the bottom.
Reem looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Wu looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Wu looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Reem postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Reem throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Wu works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wu keeping moving, preventing Reem from controlling successfully.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kong Wu showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Wu has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
