PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Karl Karjalainen (ranked 1622 p4p, 2011 weight class) and Gaius Marius (ranked 215 p4p, 269 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marius ducks under a wild hook from Karjalainen.
Marius jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Marius steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Karjalainen.
Marius moves into range and connects with a jab.
A slapping leg kick lands for Marius.

and Karjalainen counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Karjalainen uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Marius.
It looked like Karjalainen wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Karjalainen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Marius manages to avoid it.

Marius let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Marius dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Karjalainen. That did some damage!
Karjalainen is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Karjalainen lands a big uppercut and Marius crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Marius looks OK. Karjalainen waves Marius back to his feet!

As Marius backs away, Karjalainen returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

As Marius looks to move away, Karjalainen throws a big counter combo but Marius just gets out of the way.
Karjalainen misses with an uppercut.
Marius jabs Karjalainen to the body, keeping him at a distance.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Karjalainen doesn't manage to clinch there - Marius circles away.
Marius cracks a nice hook into Karjalainen's ribs.
Some bone on bone action there as Karjalainen checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Marius is looking to score with low kicks.
It appears Karjalainen was looking to counter with a kick there.
Marius comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Karjalainen's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Marius connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Karjalainen scrambles back to his feet.
Marius goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

and Karjalainen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Marius, as that shot connected.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gaius Marius will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Karjalainen goes for a small jab and connects. Now Karjalainen goes in closer pressing the issue. Left hook, right straight! Marius stumbles back but Karjalainen runs in with a huge uppercut knocking Marius to the ground! What a finish! You have to wonder if Marius will ever be the same after a knockout like that.
