PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patryck Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Pinkerton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patryck Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tom Pinkerton!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Franklyn Lucas and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Pinkerton, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Mendes moves into the clinch successfully.
Mendes lands a knee to the head.

Pinkerton is fighting off a takedown attempt but Mendes is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Pinkerton to the mat. Pinkerton regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Mendes decides to stand up.
A head kick misses from Mendes.

Pinkerton closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mendes trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Pinkerton manages to pass to mount!
Mendes tries to reverse the position but Pinkerton maintains control.
The referee warns Mendes that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Pinkerton can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mendes is looking to escape.

Pinkerton takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mendes is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Pinkerton goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Mendes is on top in guard.

Pinkerton throws a leg kick that misses.
Pinkerton takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Mendes darts in and clinches Pinkerton up against the cage.
Pinkerton is looking to control Mendes's arms but Mendes gets an underhook and turns him. Now Pinkerton has his back to the cage.

Mendes turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Mendes manages to end up in side control.
Mendes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pinkerton keeps working.

Pinkerton throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
You can see the frustration on Pinkerton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mendes is staying tight to Pinkerton's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Pinkerton is not content to let Mendes control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Pinkerton tries for a takedown but Mendes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pinkerton takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Pinkerton tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mendes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Pinkerton tries for a takedown but Mendes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Pinkerton takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Pinkerton takes a kick to the side of the head.

Mendes closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mendes lands in his opponent's guard.
Mendes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Mendes gets to his feet. Pinkerton looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Mendes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Pinkerton throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

and Mendes counters with a big head kick but Pinkerton shrugs it off.
Patryck Mendes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Pinkerton.

Mendes closes the distance and clinches up with Pinkerton, looking for a takedown. Mendes pushes Pinkerton against the cage but Pinkerton circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Pinkerton gets a takedown into half guard.
Mendes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Pinkerton's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Pinkerton's back!
Pinkerton is trying to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Pinkerton's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Pinkerton is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Mendes.
Pinkerton turns into Mendes and is now in his guard.
Patryck Mendes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mendes wants to stand up but Pinkerton is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patryck Mendes dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Mendes clinches up with Pinkerton and pushes him back against the cage.

Mendes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Pinkerton shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mendes's guard.

Mendes has an active guard here but Pinkerton has managed to pass into half guard.
Pinkerton wants to free his trapped foot but Mendes is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Pinkerton looks to land a left hand but Mendes moved out of range nicely.

Mendes clinches up with Pinkerton and pushes him back against the cage.
Pinkerton tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Mendes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Mendes counters with a good low kick that Pinkerton was not able to check.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pinkerton tries to clinch up.

Pinkerton changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mendes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mendes is looking for a sweep.
Pinkerton is chipping away with strikes.
Pinkerton controls the position from side control.
Mendes tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Pinkerton tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mendes can't escape the position.
Pinkerton controlling the pace for now.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Pinkerton in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Mendes tries to lock up and control but Pinkerton gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Mendes in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Pinkerton can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mendes is looking to escape.
Mendes is in a horrible position here. Pinkerton smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Pinkerton wants to take Mendes's back but he can't do it this time.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tom Pinkerton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pinkerton has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
