PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Island Boy Jackson (ranked 1943 p4p, 782 weight class) and John Archibald Wheeler (ranked 265 p4p, 113 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Island Boy Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Archibald Wheeler!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson looks to clinch
and Wheeler counters with a one-two to the body.
Jackson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Jackson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Jackson looking to score a takedown here. Wheeler is defending well but Jackson drives through and ends up in Wheeler's guard.
Jackson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Jackson working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Jackson throws a strike aimed at the side of Wheeler's head but Wheeler avoids it well.

Jackson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jackson misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Jackson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Jackson tries for a kimura but Wheeler is defending well.
Wheeler being controlled for a moment.
Jackson tries to move to mount but Wheeler blocks the move with his legs.
Wheeler really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jackson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The ground and pound from Jackson seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Jackson wants to control but Wheeler is keeping him busy.

Jackson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wheeler knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Wheeler is letting Jackson control him for a moment.
Wheeler parries the strikes from Jackson easily there. Jackson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Wheeler to escape.
Jackson in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Jackson in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Jackson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wheeler keeps working.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wheeler can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jackson advances nicely into full mount.

Jackson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Jackson punching from mount but Wheeler doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Jackson throwing strikes here but Wheeler is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Jackson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Wheeler to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Wheeler shrugs it off.

Jackson looking for a guillotine from mount but Wheeler is having none of it.

Jackson working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Wheeler looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Jackson! Submission of the night perhaps?
