PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Walker (ranked 4452 p4p, 4438 weight class) and Sei Narukawa (ranked 0 p4p, 458 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sei Narukawa!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Reed Andrews and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walker leaves Narukawa with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Let's hope that Narukawa has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Walker wants to sweep here but Narukawa controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Narukawa slips a nice elbow through Walker's hands, connecting with Walker's forehead.
Narukawa looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Walker is trying to control but can't.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Narukawa in particular looking to stall.

Narukawa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Sei Narukawa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Narukawa shoots in looking for a takedown but Walker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Narukawa's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

It looked like Walker was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Narukawa.

That's time! Walker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Narukawa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Walker paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Narukawa moves out of range of the leg kick from Walker.
Narukawa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Walker appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
A low kick lands for Walker.
Narukawa sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Walker.
Narukawa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Walker defends well and Narukawa ends up having to push Walker into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Steve Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sei Narukawa.
Walker keeps Narukawa at a distance using the push kick.
Walker fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Narukawa.

Walker fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Narukawa manages to avoid it.

Walker explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Walker thuds his shin into the meat of Narukawa's side.
The fight stays on the outside here - Narukawa looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Narukawa counters with a nice double leg into side control. Walker won't be happy with that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Narukawa throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Narukawa sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Narukawa lands a couple of good shots and Walker has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Walker is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Walker is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Narukawa can do to turn this around?

Narukawa biding his time, looking for the opening.
Narukawa is continuing to stall.

Narukawa is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Walker is defending well though. Narukawa let's go of the attempt for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
What can Walker do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Narukawa is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Walker has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
