The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crymble shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Crymble's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Smith fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Crymble, pushing him back against the cage.
Still in the clinch, Smith scores with a nice short uppercut.
Crymble tries to pull guard but Smith won't allow it.

Smith jumps guard and drags Crymble to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Crymble wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Crymble decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Smith, up you get!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Smith is defended easily by Crymble.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crymble tries to bum rush Smith with a series of wild strikes but Smith uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Smith drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Crymble defends it well.
Smith misses with a body kick.

Crymble shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smith as he avoids it easily.

Crymble throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Smith tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Crymble is in Smith's guard.

Crymble is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
An elbow from Smith crashes against the mat.
Crymble on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Crymble tries to get out of the position.

Crymble tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

Smith has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Crymble dives in for a single leg takedown but Smith sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Smith stops a takedown attempt from Crymble.
Smith has Crymble pressed against the cage.
Smith with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Smith breaks from the clinch.
Crymble lands the left hand.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown but Crymble manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smith's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Crymble lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Smith at a distance.

Smith checks a low kick from Crymble.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Crymble sprawls well. Crymble wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.
Crymble ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Crymble throws a big counter combination but Smith scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Crymble moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.

Crymble closes the distance and pushes Smith back into the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Crymble fails to pull the fight into his guard.
John Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Smith tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Crymble avoids it.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Trejean Crymble.
