PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gage Bennett (ranked 2906 p4p, 3102 weight class) and D.D Panda (ranked 371 p4p, 393 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gage Bennett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, D.D Panda!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Panda rushes Bennett and presses him up against the cage.

Panda decides to pull guard.

Panda seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Bennett wants to stand but Panda has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Panda is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Bennett will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Panda working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bennett doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bennett manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Bennett seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Panda throws the left hand but Bennett avoids the punch easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Panda shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Bennett tries to kick Panda off but Panda keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bennett throws a jab but it's blocked by Panda.
Panda misses the shot to the body.
The fighters circling - Panda throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bennett avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Panda on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Bennett connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Panda's hands.

It looks like D.D Panda has been cut.
Bennett scores with a jab to the body.
Panda keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Panda tries to clinch up but Bennett circles away and keeps his distance.
Panda throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Bennett gets caught flat footed, as Panda shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Bennett has his hands on Panda's head, controlling the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but D.D Panda will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on D.D Panda's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Bennett tests Panda's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Panda's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Bennett connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Panda scrambles back to his feet.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Bennett is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Panda can do to turn this around?

Bennett wants to get up but he can't break Panda's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Bennett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Panda swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bennett has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

A little feinted left hand from Bennett on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
That kick from Bennett tenderised Panda's leg. Panda is trying to keep his angry face on.

It looked like Bennett was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Panda.

Panda fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Bennett looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
