PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Kuznetsov (ranked 931 p4p, 2518 weight class) and Cam Cartwright (ranked 145 p4p, 342 weight class). Cartwright has chosen Karma Chameleon as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Alexander Kuznetsov has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Alexander Kuznetsov seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Kuznetsov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cam Cartwright!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Joseph Jones and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kuznetsov rushes Cartwright and presses him up against the cage.
Kuznetsov is trying to maintain a safe position but Cartwright gets an underhook and turns Kuznetsov into the cage.
Cartwright tries to score a body lock takedown but Kuznetsov shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Cartwright jumps into guard, dragging Kuznetsov to the mat.

Cartwright had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kuznetsov defends it easily.
Kuznetsov trying to control but Cartwright is working from the bottom.

Cartwright looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Cartwright working for a triangle but Kuznetsov defends it easily.
Kuznetsov wants to control from the top but Cartwright keeps moving.
Kuznetsov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kuznetsov wants to stand but Cartwright is controlling his posture from full guard.
Cartwright is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kuznetsov throws a big elbow that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kuznetsov wants to control from the top but Cartwright keeps moving.
Kuznetsov's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kuznetsov postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Cartwright looking for a guillotine here but Kuznetsov defends easily.
Kuznetsov won't allow Cartwright to sweep him here.

Kuznetsov stands and steps away. Cartwright gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Cartwright looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Alexander Kuznetsov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cartwright slips a jab and a cross from Kuznetsov.
Cartwright shoots and misses
and Kuznetsov connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Alexander Kuznetsov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cam Cartwright.
Kuznetsov scores with a nice strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kuznetsov moves into range and clinches up with Cartwright.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Kuznetsov.
Nice elbow from Kuznetsov.
Cartwright jumps guard but Kuznetsov stands there with Cartwright around his waist. Cartwright gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Cartwright tries to pull guard but Kuznetsov forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Kuznetsov throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Cartwright blocks it with crossed arms.
Kuznetsov gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cartwright.
I was talking to Kuznetsov's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Cartwright takes an elbow to the temple.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kuznetsov drops Cartwright with a big knee straight up the middle! Cartwright is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!

It looks like Cam Cartwright has been cut.
Cartwright looks winded!
Cartwright tries for a takedown but Kuznetsov sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kuznetsov is looking for a counter combo.
Kuznetsov leaves Cartwright with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kuznetsov lands a jab.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Decent striking displayed by Kuznetsov there.

Cartwright is rocked!
Kuznetsov drops Cartwright with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Cartwright! Kuznetsov dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alexander Kuznetsov!
Our winner, Alexander Kuznetsov, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
