PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Mazepin (ranked 2619 p4p, 2794 weight class) and Balal Lama (ranked 329 p4p, 345 weight class). Mazepin comes into the arena with boom blaring out of the sound system. Balal Lama has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fedor Mazepin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Balal Lama!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Paulsen Ambrosius and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lama works Mazepin's body with a nice hook.

Lama tightens his grip and picks Mazepin up, before dumping him to the ground. Mazepin manages to land in guard.
Lama controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Lama working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Lama wants to pass the guard but Mazepin is keeping the position.

Mazepin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lama gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Lama stands up over Mazepin, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

No joy there for Mazepin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
The fighters circling - Lama throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Lama is keen to just control but Mazepin is a slippery customer.
Lama is taking a breather. Mazepin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Let's hope that Lama has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Lama has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Lama wants to control the pace but Mazepin is squirming around nicely.
Lama is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mazepin can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Mazepin is looking to cinch up a triangle. Lama throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Mazepin's body to avoid the submission. Mazepin has instead reached around Lama's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Mazepin arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

During a confident post fight interview, Fedor Mazepin thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
