PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chen Wangting (ranked 25078 p4p, 25228 weight class) and Kai Ayres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wangting comes into the arena with Interceptor blaring out of the sound system. Chen Wangting is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chen Wangting!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kai Ayres!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wangting leaves Ayres with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Wangting throws a quick counter head kick but Ayres was just out of range.
Wangting looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Ayres will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ayres throws the kick towards the body but Wangting avoids it.
As Ayres looks to move away, Wangting throws a big counter combo but Ayres just gets out of the way.
Ayres tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Wangting is able to avoid easily.

Wangting drives through with a takedown into guard.
Wangting trying to control but Ayres is working from the bottom.

Ayres looking for a guillotine here but Wangting defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ayres is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Ayres keeping moving, preventing Wangting from controlling successfully.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ayres is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ayres wants to control but Wangting is keeping busy.
Ayres is controlling Wangting's position as best he can from this difficult position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Ayres moves into the clinch.
Ayres is trying to force a seperation but Wangting has the dominant position.
Wangting gets underhooks to prevent Ayres's takedown attempt.

Ayres looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Ayres pulls Wangting in to control the position.
Wangting preventing the sweep.

That was a close round but I would say that Chen Wangting will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Ayres closes the distance and clinches up with Wangting, looking for a takedown. Ayres pushes Wangting against the cage but Wangting circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Wangting throws a lazy uppercut
and Ayres counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Ayres fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wangting avoids it really well and circles away.
Chen Wangting has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kai Ayres.
Ayres shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wangting sprawls well. Wangting wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ayres gets slowly back to his feet.

Wangting dives in and grabs Ayres's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ayres pushes down on Wangting's head and hops out.

Ayres had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wangting defends it easily.
Ayres wants to sweep here but Wangting controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ayres working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wangting doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wangting manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Ayres closes the distance and pushes Wangting back into the cage.
Wangting goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ayres prevents it.

Ayres's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ayres lands a jab.

Ayres closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Wangting to the mat! Wangting manages to get full guard.

Wangting might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Ayres tries to stand but Wangting is controlling from the bottom.

Ayres stands up and waves to Wangting to follow him.
Ayres shoots in for a takedown but Wangting shows good takedown defense.
Ayres fails with the takedown.

Ayres rushes Wangting and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Wangting could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Kai Ayres showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Ayres shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wangting as he jumps to the side.
Wangting went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Ayres moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Ayres misses with a head kick.
Ayres throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wangting's waist but Wangting gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ayres off to one side.
Ayres shoots in looking for a takedown. Wangting tries to sprawl out of it but Ayres keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wangting manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Chen Wangting has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kai Ayres.

Ayres changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Wangting fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Wangting works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Ayres is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ayres really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wangting. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wangting has hold of Ayres's hands but Ayres slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Wangting avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ayres.
Ayres throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ayres trying to pass the guard but Wangting defending well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Ayres shoots in but no luck this time.

Kai Ayres comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ayres has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
