PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gee Wiz (ranked 4553 p4p, 3341 weight class) and Solomon Iii Tewodros (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tewodros has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Solomon Iii Tewodros!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wiz wants to clinch up but Tewodros keeps it at a distance.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Tewodros! But no joy.
A jab lands there for Wiz.

It looks like Solomon Iii Tewodros has been cut.
Wiz fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Tewodros has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Gee Wiz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wiz cracks a nice hook into Tewodros's ribs.
Jab, jab by Wiz - just one landing.
Tewodros swings for the body but Wiz moves out of range.

Wiz has Tewodros up against the cage in a clinch.
Tewodros wants to get back to striking at distance but Wiz won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wiz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Wiz fails with the takedown
and Tewodros counters with a nice body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wiz lands a big head kick that sends Tewodros to the canvas! Wiz follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Gee Wiz was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
