PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raul Kyshenko (ranked 3280 p4p, 3951 weight class) and Romero Castilho (ranked 420 p4p, 483 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Raul Kyshenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Romero Castilho!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kyshenko shoots for a double leg takedown but Castilho sprawls well. He's pushed Kyshenko's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
No luck for Kyshenko with that takedown attempt.

Castilho gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kyshenko to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Castilho keeping moving, preventing Kyshenko from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kyshenko is pushing down on Castilho's leg trying to pass to half guard. Castilho is fighting to maintain full guard but Kyshenko has managed to sneak the leg through.
Castilho looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Kyshenko is pressing down on Castilho's thigh, looking to free his foot. Castilho is holding on for now.

Castilho is not content to let Kyshenko control the position.
Kyshenko keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Castilho is trying to stand back up but Kyshenko is controlling him
Kyshenko has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Kyshenko is looking to take a break and control but Castilho is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kyshenko shoots in for a double leg but Castilho sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Raul Kyshenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Castilho leaves Kyshenko with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Castilho is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Kyshenko shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Castilho as he avoids it easily.
Castilho only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Castilho stuffs the takedown attempt from Kyshenko. Kyshenko gets slowly back to his feet.

and Castilho counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Romero Castilho is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Kyshenko looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Castilho!
Kyshenko is breathing heavily.
Castilho is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Kyshenko asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Kyshenko is trying to get an arm triangle but Castilho is defending well.
Castilho is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Kyshenko is controlling him well.
Kyshenko controls the position.

Kyshenko tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Kyshenko is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Castilho knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Castilho tries to escape but Kyshenko is in control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kyshenko has an Americana. Castilho didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Kyshenko is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Kyshenko hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Raul Kyshenko!
Raul Kyshenko was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
