PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Cotilla (ranked 1201 p4p, 1341 weight class) and Rufus Rutger (ranked 165 p4p, 180 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cotilla throws a left and a right that both miss
and Rutger counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

It looks like Alexander Cotilla has been cut.

Cotilla dodges the punch combination from Rutger.
Rutger tries to close the distance and clinch but Cotilla swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Rutger connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Cotilla momentarily.

Rutger's coach down at FF Forever was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Rutger's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

and Rutger cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Rutger was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

Rutger steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Cotilla. That one must have hurt.
Cotilla clobbers Rutger with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rutger takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Cotilla seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Rutger throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cotilla sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Rutger connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Cotilla's hands.

Oooooh!!! Rutger has knocked Cotilla down with a huge combo! Rutger steps away and waves a wobbly Cotilla back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Rutger tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cotilla manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Cotilla fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Rutger has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Cotilla feints a jab promting Rutger to slip. Cotilla then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Rutger slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Rutger moves into range and clinches up with Cotilla.

Cotilla is looking to control Rutger's arms but Rutger gets an underhook and turns him. Now Cotilla has his back to the cage.

A head punch on the inside from Rutger fails to land.
Rutger scores with a shoulder strike.
Rutger tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Cotilla's elbow.
Rutger throws a punch but it's blocked by Cotilla.

Cotilla escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cotilla throws a sloppy head kick and Rutger moves out of range easily.

Cotilla feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Rutgers jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

and Rutger counters with a crisp one two that drops Cotilla! Rutger thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Cotilla to his feet! Cotilla is in big trouble!

Jeez, Alexander Cotilla's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Alexander Cotilla's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Rufus Rutger!
A relieved looking Rufus Rutger thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
