PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Sanders (ranked 4045 p4p, 2329 weight class) and Marvin Vettori (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanders comes to the cage accompanied by War. Vettori comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Police On My Back- The Rocketz kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, James Sanders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 40 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marvin Vettori!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Andrew Berry and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanders tries to clinch up

and Vettori counters with a shoot takedown. Sanders fights it but they end up in guard.
Sanders seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Vettori throwing strikes but missing.
Vettori stays in close to Sanders's body and controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vettori passes Sanders's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Vettori is controlling the pace.

Vettori prevents Sanders from standing back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Vettori is working for a submission of some sort.
Sanders is trying to escape back to his feet but Vettori uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Vettori takes a little break here. Sanders wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Sanders gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vettori is landing with some decent strikes but Sanders is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Vettori fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Sanders knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vettori on the ground.
Vettori content just to control the position here.
Vettori's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Vettori has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at 88Fight Club Gym88.. 800pw (16 COACHES). Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Sanders tries to hold on but Vettori pushes him away.

Vettori is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sanders is surviving well by controlling Vettori's body position as best he can.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vettori controlling the pace for now.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Vettori drives through and clinches with Sanders against the cage.
Sanders working hard to break the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Vettori.
Vettori leaning against his opponent.
Sanders takes a knee to the side of the body.
Sanders has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Sanders takes an elbow to the forehead.

It looks like James Sanders has been cut.
Vettori is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Vettori is pushing Sanders up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Vettori drags the fight down to the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vettori looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Vettori looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Vettori wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Sanders has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Sanders trying to control the position from guard on top but Vettori is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Vettori pulls Sanders in close to prevent any damage.
Vettori has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Vettori lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Sanders is trying to control the position from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Vettori stays in close to Sanders's body and controls the position.
Vettori is continuing to stall.
Vettori is in close to Sanders's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Vettori is pushing down on Sanders's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sanders is fighting to maintain full guard but Vettori has managed to sneak the leg through.

Vettori wants to pass to mount but Sanders is defending the position.
Sanders tries to get to full guard but Vettori has control of the leg.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vettori connects with a nice short shot to Sanders's temple.
Vettori seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Let's hope that Vettori has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Marvin Vettori has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Vettori shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Vettori showed some decent athleticism there.
Sanders tries to kick Vettori off in order to stand up. Vettori Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Vettori is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Sanders's shoulder. That is not cool.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Marvin Vettori showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on James Sanders's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Vettori lands a jab.
Vettori connects with a body shot.
Vettori moves into range and connects with a jab.
Sanders moves in looking to clinch but Vettori pushes him off.
Nice takedown defense from Sanders. No joy for Vettori on that attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vettori lands with a thumping leg kick.
Vettori connects with the punch.
Sanders takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Vettori closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sanders circles away.

Sanders on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Sanders is rocked!
Vettori walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Sanders drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Vettori swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Sanders's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marvin Vettori!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Marvin Vettori waved his t-shirt featuring New Standard's logo in front of the cameras.
The defeated James Sanders had this to say: 'It was a war in there. I'm lucky enough to be going home tonight. I lost, and it's okay, because tomorrow we go again.'.
