PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luther Jackson (ranked 1160 p4p, 1063 weight class) and Tomomisan Tsuruta (ranked 160 p4p, 144 weight class). Jackson comes into the arena with Come As You Are - Nirvana blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 23 - 15 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tomomisan Tsuruta!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

We've been hearing reports that Jackson has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Tsuruta steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jackson.
Jackson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tsuruta manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Jackson takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jackson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Tsuruta stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Tsuruta fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jackson manages to avoid it.

Donk. Tsuruta catches Jackson right on the button with a cross.
Jackson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jackson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tsuruta pinned against the cage. Tsuruta gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Tsuruta tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Jackson looks to score with a jab to the body but Tsuruta is just out of range.
Tsuruta wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Jackson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tsuruta defends well.

Jackson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tsuruta's guard.

Tsuruta wants to hit a sweep here but Jackson passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Tsuruta there!

Jackson misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jackson is looking to work some ground and pound but Tsuruta has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Jackson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tsuruta's guard.

That's time! Jackson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Tsuruta working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Jackson takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Tsuruta's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
