This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Wilky Pierre!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Merel tries to keep at a distance but Pierre has taken the fight into the clinch.
Merel drags the fight down to the ground.
Pierre trying to control but Merel is working from the bottom.
Pierre tries to free his leg and advance position but Merel is retaining full guard.
Merel is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Pierre wants to control from the top but Merel keeps moving.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pierre working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Merel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Merel manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Merel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pierre swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Merel is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pierre is just riding it out for now. Merel eventually gives up the hold.
Pierre gets back to full guard.
Pierre is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Merel defends well.
Pierre is trying to keep Merel in close.
Pierre escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Merel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Merel won't allow Pierre to sweep him here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Merel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pierre has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Merel has managed to get both his arms back between Pierre's legs - danger averted.
Pierre tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Merel is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Pierre looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Merel is keen to just control but Pierre is a slippery customer.

Merel has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Pierre defend it? Merel steps over the head and cranks it - Pierre is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Merel!
