PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Dyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kiazer Soze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dyer comes into the arena with Viva La Vida blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Soze's choice of entrance music: Holy Tears. The key to victory for Shawn Dyer has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Shawn Dyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kiazer Soze!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dyer is looking to clinch but Soze is avoiding it.
Soze uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Dyer.
Dyer is looking to clinch but Soze is avoiding it.
Dyer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Soze moves away.
Dyer stuffs the takedown.
Dyer tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Soze bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Soze is looking to take a break and control but Dyer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Dyer is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Dyer tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Soze is trying to get an arm triangle but Dyer is defending well.
You can see the frustration on Dyer's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Soze wants to control but Dyer is keeping him busy.

Soze laying and praying for a moment but Dyer takes advantage and regains half guard.

Soze is working for a kimura but Dyer is defending it quite comfortably.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Soze stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dyer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Dyer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Soze gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Soze trying to control the position from guard on top but Dyer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dyer is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Dyer has his hands on Soze's head, controlling the position.
Soze is looking to advance position but Dyer has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Soze is trying desperately to improve position.

Dyer stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Dyer swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Dyer tries to clinch there but Soze circles away.
Dyer throws a shot from downtown. Soze moves away and avoids it.
Dyer tries to clinch but Soze moves out of range.
Dyer jabbing away but nothing is landing.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dyer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Soze throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Dyer doesn't manage to clinch there - Soze circles away.
Dyer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Soze paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dyer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Soze circles away from the clinch attempt.
Soze blocks a head kick by Dyer.
Soze fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dyer throws a hook but Soze avoids it easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

and Soze counters by moving into the clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kiazer Soze will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Soze closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dyer circles away.

Soze shoots in and bounces Dyer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Dyer is looking to stand up but Soze isn't so interested in that idea.

Dyer has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Soze off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Soze keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

It looks like Kiazer Soze has been cut.
Soze circles away from the clinch attempt

and Soze counters with a shoot takedown. Dyer fights it but they end up in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dyer pushes Soze off and gets back to his feet.

Dyer clinches but Soze breaks the clinch

so Soze counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dyer wants to sweep but no luck.

Soze gets to his feet - Dyer follows without any prompting.
Dyer wants to clinch
enabling Soze to counter with a crisp jab.

Dyer gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Dyer swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Dyer lands a left hand.
Dyer throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Soze blocks it with crossed arms.
Dyer misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Soze.

Dyer misses with a knee strike.
Dyer misses with a knee to the head.
Dyer lands an elbow inside that Soze shrugs off.
Dyer connects with a knee to the head.
Soze dodges an elbow strike from Dyer.
Soze will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Dyer up against the cage.
Dyer creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Soze's defenses.
Dyer looking to throw knees to the head but Soze is blocking nicely.
Dyer misses with a knee strike.
Dyer misses with some punches.
Soze tries to pull guard but Dyer holds him up against the cage and eventually Soze drops back down to his feet.

Soze pulls guard successfully.
Dyer stopping the sweep attempt from Soze.
Dyer wants to control from the top but Soze keeps moving.

Soze working for a triangle but Dyer defends it easily.

Soze looking for subs off his back but Dyer has passed one foot through into half guard.

Dyer seems to be working for a kimura but Soze defends the submission attempt.

Soze actively working from the bottom here.

Soze is breathing heavily.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dyer has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kiazer Soze showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Soze changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dyer tries to avoid it but Soze manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dyer to the ground. Dyer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dyer scores with a jab. Soze acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Dyer throws out a loose jab but Soze uses good head movement to avoid it.
Soze tries a head kick but it misses.
Soze takes a jab right on the kisser.
Soze circles away from the clinch attempt
and Soze makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Dyer closes the distance but Soze moves to the side

and Soze counters with a single leg into guard. Dyer didn't expect that.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Dyer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Soze gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Soze is looking to advance position but Dyer has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

That has opened up Kiazer Soze's cut even more.
Soze is trying to escape the mount.
Soze looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Soze is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Even with his hooks in, Dyer manages to miss with strikes from the back.

Dyer has the hooks in. Soze is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Dyer scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
You can see the frustration on Soze's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Dyer misses with punches from the back.
Soze trying to control but not successfully.

Dyer is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Soze has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
The referee is taking a good look at Soze as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Dyer!

Dyer lands a shot to the head.
Soze wants to control his opponent's hands but Dyer gets his hands free.
Dyer lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.


The cut above Kiazer Soze's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Shawn Dyer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Soze is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Dyer wants to control the position but Soze frees himself and scrambles - Dyer manages to regain control in side control.

Dyer wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Soze, who protects the arm well.
Kiazer Soze is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Dyer stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Dyer throws a sloppy head kick and Soze moves out of range easily.
Dyer looks to land a combination but Soze avoids it well.

Soze decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Dyer tries to kick Soze off but Soze keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dyer is looking for a sweep. Soze is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shawn Dyer showed his dominance in that final round.
