The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ryan throws a nice looking combination but Gross bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gross avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gross appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Ryan misses with a wild combination.
Ryan throws a left and a right that both miss
and Gross counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Ryan has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Ryan misses the jab.
Ryan misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gross takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Ryan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Eddie Ryan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ryan misses with a double jab.
Sloppy strikes from Gross. Those never looked like landing.
Gross avoids a punch combination nicely.
A telegraphed right hand from Ryan misses the target.
Gross appears to be looking for a big counter.
Ryan throws a right hand that Gross ducks under and follows up with a left that Gross also avoids with ease.
Gross swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Gross digs a good hook to Ryan's body.

Ryan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ryan lands in his opponent's guard.

Let's hope that Ryan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Ryan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gross doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ryan.

Gross is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Ryan has latched onto it... Big trouble! Ryan pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Gross is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Ryan!
