PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edd Norton (ranked 374 p4p, 327 weight class) and Ray Jones (ranked 47 p4p, 41 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Edd Norton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ray Jones!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Ren Mimura and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones slips under a jab from Norton.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Jones! But no joy.
Jones misses with a jab, cross combination.
Norton is looking to counter the offense by Jones and move into the clinch.
Jones works Norton's body with a nice hook.
The fight stays on the outside here - Norton looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Norton moves to clinch but Jones breaks away
and Jones counters with a nice uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Norton tries to clinch up.
Norton takes a body punch but keeps moving.
A slow jab from Norton misses its intended target.

Norton misses with a hook
and Jones counters with a good low kick that Norton was not able to check.
Jones motions for Norton to come forward. Jones throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Norton throws a hook but Jones avoids it easily.
Jones tries a quick counter leg kick but Norton is wise to it.
Norton waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Jones.
Jones throws an overhand right that lands on Norton's shoulder, as Norton tries to avoid the shot.
Norton was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
A left lands for Norton.
Jones scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Jones ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Norton moves away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Norton.
Norton loads up on a big right hand but Jones slips the punch.
Jones was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Jones cracks Norton with an open hand slap.
Norton throws a shot from downtown. Jones moves away and avoids it.
Norton looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well.
Jones misses the shot to the body.
An attempted straight right counter from Norton misses the target.
Jones is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Norton rather than just go for the knockout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Norton rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Jones makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Norton really felt that one!
Norton takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Norton is breathing heavily.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick
and Norton counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Norton throws a big shot that misses.
Norton backing away here, and Jones unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Norton on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Norton avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jones slips a jab and a cross from Norton.
Jones throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jones connects with the punch.
Norton takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Norton misses with an uppercut.
Norton throws a shot from downtown. Jones moves away and avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Norton appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Norton throws a jab when Jones was well out of range.
Jones steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Norton.
Jones tries a quick counter leg kick but Norton is wise to it.
Norton connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Norton slips under a jab from Jones.
Norton tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Norton swings for the body but Jones moves out of range.
Jones misses with a wild body shot.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Jones dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Norton feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Jones sprawling to the canvas! Jones rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Norton finish him?!

It looks like Ray Jones has been cut.
Jones misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Norton.
Norton shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Norton has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Jones finds it's way round the side to connect with Norton's head.

Norton cracks Jones with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Jones looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Norton finish him?

Jones is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones lands a leg kick that knocks Norton off balance momentarily.
Jones is still on wobbly legs! Can Norton finish him?
Jones tries to land a body kick
and Norton makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Jones seems to have recovered his senses.
Norton misses with an uppercut
and Jones counters with a lovely shot to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Norton sends Jones crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Norton is motioning to the referee to let Jones up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Norton circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Jones to the canvas! Jones doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Norton keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Edd Norton!
Our winner, Edd Norton, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
