PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mantak Garuda (ranked 89 p4p, 178 weight class) and Tony Stark (ranked 15 p4p, 27 weight class). Garuda comes to the cage accompanied by Djiin Djiin. The key to victory for Mantak Garuda has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stark fails with a takedown attempt.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Stark has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Garuda throws a jab but it's blocked by Stark.
We've been told by Garuda's head coaches at Slaughter Houze that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Garuda.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Stark stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Garuda swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Stark drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Stark jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Garuda is pulling down on Stark's head. It's preventing any offense from Stark, at least for the moment.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tony Stark will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Garuda.
Garuda ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Stark moves away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stark changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Stark on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Stark throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Garuda's waist but Garuda gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stark off to one side.
Mantak Garuda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Stark.
