PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jose Garcilazo (ranked 2118 p4p, 3043 weight class) and Jan Sokol (ranked 122 p4p, 182 weight class). Garcilazo comes into the arena with Pretty fly for a whiteguy by The Offspring blaring out of the sound system. Jan Sokol will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jose Garcilazo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jan Sokol!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sokol clinches up with Garcilazo and pushes him back against the cage.
Garcilazo looking for a takedown.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Sokol has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Sokol lands with a left to the head.
Sokol swings wildly with an uppercut but Garcilazo uses good head movement to avoid it.

Garcilazo has clasped his hands together around Sokol's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Garcilazo swings around for an armbar but Sokol sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Garcilazo's guard.

Garcilazo has his foot on Sokol's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sokol works his way back into a safe position though.
Sokol wants to pass the guard but Garcilazo is keeping the position.

Sokol drops back looking for a leg! Garcilazo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Garcilazo manages to kick Sokol off! Sokol jumps back into Garcilazo's guard.
Sokol slips nicely into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sokol seems to be looking for submissions.
Garcilazo is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at PRETTY PETERS FIGHT CLUB that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Sokol tries to pass the half guard into mount. Garcilazo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sokol is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sokol is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Garcilazo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Garcilazo shrugs it off.

Garcilazo has given up his back. Will we see Sokol going for some submissions?

Garcilazo tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Sokol is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Garcilazo is surviving well by controlling Sokol's body position as best he can.
Garcilazo is desperately trying to improve his position but Sokol has a good base and remains in mount.
Sokol is trying to take his opponent's back.
Sokol trying to control but Garcilazo is having none of it.
Garcilazo tries to lock up and control but Sokol gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Sokol seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Garcilazo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Sokol winds up and cracks Garcilazo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Sokol uses his free foot to push down on Garcilazo's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Garcilazo.
Garcilazo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Sokol is trying to take his opponent's back.

Sokol is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Garcilazo has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Garcilazo tries to hold on but Sokol pushes him away.

Sokol is working for a guillotine from mount but Garcilazo frees his head quite easily.
Sokol looking to control but Garcilazo is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Garcilazo tries to reverse the position but Sokol maintains control.

Sokol wants to control the pace but Garcilazo is squirming around nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Garcilazo tries to score a body lock takedown but Sokol shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Sokol is trying to control Garcilazo's posture but Garcilazo avoids it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Sokol tries to improve position but can't.

Garcilazo has hold of Sokol's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Sokol seems comfortable defending it but Garcilazo has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Sokol is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Sokol is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Garcilazo couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jose Garcilazo!
Our winner, Jose Garcilazo, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
