The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cormier swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cormier lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Maia closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cormier quickly recovers to half guard.
Maia trying to control from half guard but Cormier is working away.
Maia wants to work for an arm triangle but Cormier is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Maia wants to pass to mount but Cormier is defending the position.
Well, if Maia is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maia maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Cormier could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Maia has cracked it and Cormier is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Maia!
