PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between michael woodhead (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liste Pik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, michael woodhead!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Liste Pik!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
woodhead changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pik tries to avoid it but woodhead manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pik to the ground. Pik escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

woodhead gets caught flat footed, as Pik shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
woodhead being controlled here, momentarily.
woodhead is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Pik dives into side control.
woodhead wants to get back to his feet but Pik drags him back down.
Pik staying calm.
Pik working the ground and pound.
Pik content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Pik stands up.

Pik gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
woodhead drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
woodhead is trying to drag Pik to the mat but Pik just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for michael woodhead. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pik prevents a takedown attempt there.
woodhead is breathing heavily.

Pik has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics woodhead uses from the top position.

Pik pulls woodhead in to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pik working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. woodhead doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Pik is tightening it up a little... woodhead has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! woodhead reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! woodhead taps out! nice BJJ there by Pik!
