Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeff jr Monsoon!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Leonardo Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Donald Grub and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Monsoon drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Monsoon won't allow Gracie to get back to his feet.
Monsoon trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Monsoon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Monsoon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Monsoon might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gracie preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Monsoon drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gracie looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gracie looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gracie!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Monsoon is trying to control Gracie's posture but Gracie avoids it.
Gracie is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Gracie decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Monsoon scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Gracie pushes Monsoon off looking to stand but Monsoon dives back in and keeps control.

Monsoon is looking for a kimura but Gracie is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Monsoon to get the leverage.
Gracie is trying to stand back up but Monsoon is controlling him

Monsoon is working for a submission of some sort.
Monsoon is breathing heavily.

Monsoon seems to be working for a kimura but Gracie defends the submission attempt.
Monsoon stops Gracie from getting back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gracie throws a head kick but Monsoon moves out of range.
Some wild striking there from Gracie.
Gracie lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Jeff jr Monsoon has been cut.
Leonardo Gracie is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gracie lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Monsoon backs up against the cage.
Gracie tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Monsoon darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Monsoon prevents Gracie from standing back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Monsoon wants to work for an arm triangle but Gracie is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Monsoon is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Monsoon wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy.

Monsoon is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gracie defends it well.
Monsoon stops Gracie from getting back to his feet.

Monsoon is working for a kimura but Gracie is defending it quite comfortably.
Gracie pushes Monsoon off looking to stand but Monsoon dives back in and keeps control.

Monsoon is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gracie looks like he's trying to stand up.
Monsoon is trying to control the action in half guard but Gracie is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Gracie is trying to stand back up but Monsoon is controlling him

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Monsoon fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gracie sprawls well initially but Monsoon persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Monsoon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gracie tries to kick Monsoon off but Monsoon keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Monsoon not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Monsoon has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Gracie defend it? Monsoon steps over the head and cranks it - Gracie is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Monsoon!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jeff jr Monsoon!
Jeff jr Monsoon is the new lightweight champion!
