PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between The Royal Savage (ranked 2400 p4p, 19738 weight class) and Roman Boesku (ranked 284 p4p, 645 weight class). Boesku has chosen Fight Music as his entrance music. Roman Boesku has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, The Royal Savage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Roman Boesku!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boesku dives in and scores a takedown into Savage's guard.
Boesku is stalling in the full guard.
Boesku stops Savage from standing up.
Savage trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Boesku seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boesku trying to control but Savage is working from the bottom.
Boesku controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boesku trying to control the position from guard on top but Savage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Savage stuffs the takedown attempt from Boesku. Boesku gets slowly back to his feet.
It looked like Savage wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Boesku shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Savage swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
No luck for Boesku with that takedown attempt.
The Royal Savage has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roman Boesku.
Boesku shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Savage sprawls well. Savage wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Boesku gets slowly back to his feet.
Boesku needs to keep his hands up - Savage had a free shot at his head there.

It looks like Roman Boesku has been cut.
Boesku misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Savage throws a series of punches but Boesku avoids them all with ease.
Boesku fails to land the takedown.
Savage went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Savage misses with a hook.
Savage thows a left - swing and a miss!
Boesku drops his hands momentarily and Savage takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Boesku shoots in looking for a takedown but Savage manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Boesku's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Boesku takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Savage is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Boesku.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Savage fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Savage swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Boesku counters with a shoot takedown. Savage fights it but they end up in guard.
Boesku won't allow Savage to get back to his feet.
Boesku controls from within his opponent's guard.

Boesku postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Savage is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Boesku, into his guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boesku is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Boesku seems to be working for a kimura but Savage defends the submission attempt.

Boesku is looking for submissions but instead, Savage has regained full guard.

Boesku drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Savage dives on top into guard.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Savage preventing the sweep.
Boesku controls Savage momentarily but Savage frees himself.
Boesku looking to hit a scissor sweep but Savage is one step ahead there.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Boesku working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Savage doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Savage manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Boesku is on top in guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Savage lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Savage thows a left - swing and a miss!

Boesku gets a double leg takedown into Savage's guard.
Boesku won't allow Savage to get back to his feet.
Boesku not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Savage is looking to stand up but Boesku isn't so interested in that idea.
Boesku content to stall in guard here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boesku's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Boesku has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Boesku won't allow Savage to get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
We've been told by Savage's head coaches at Blood and Iron Training that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Boesku changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Savage tries to avoid it but Boesku manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Savage to the ground. Savage escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Savage lands a jab.
Boesku slips a straight right by Savage.
Boesku with the counter takedown but Savage avoids it easily.
Savage swings widly with a right hand

and Boesku counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Boesku is controlling the pace.
Savage wants to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boesku has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
My spies in Gold Samurai's Gym inform me that Boesku has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Boesku seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Savage is holding on tight.

Boesku working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Boesku goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Savage turns into him and now he's in Boesku's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Boesku is pulling down on Savage's head to control his posture.

Boesku looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Savage won't allow Boesku to sweep him here.
Savage wants to stand and escape but instead Boesku has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

More stalling from Boesku.
Savage keeping moving, preventing Boesku from controlling successfully.
Roman Boesku has got the better of the ground game so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Boesku is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Roman Boesku showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Boesku has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Boesku shoots in but no luck this time.
Savage swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Savage connects with a right that clearly hurt Boesku. He's backed up against the cage with nowhere to go as Savage proceeds to tee off with vicious combinations till Boesku collapses and taps out under the pressure!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). The Royal Savage!
