PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jack Stend Up (ranked 4464 p4p, 6303 weight class) and Giuseppe De Rossi (ranked 486 p4p, 580 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Stend Up!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Giuseppe De Rossi!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stend Up tries to clinch up but De Rossi circles away and keeps his distance.
De Rossi throws a series of punches but Stend Up moves out of range.
Stend Up dives in for a single leg takedown but De Rossi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
De Rossi tries to counter with a clinch but Stend Up shakes him off and moves away.

Stend Up successfully pulls guard.
De Rossi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Stend Up has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but De Rossi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Stend Up is looking for a triangle but De Rossi pushes his legs off easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
De Rossi wants to get up but he can't break Stend Up's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Stend Up scrambles and gets back to his feet.
De Rossi swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Stend Up.
Giuseppe De Rossi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stend Up dives in and grabs De Rossi's left leg, looking for a takedown. De Rossi pushes down on Stend Up's head and hops out.
De Rossi drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Stend Up defends it well.
Stend Up takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Stend Up takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
A big right from De Rossi misses.
A quick step to the side and Stend Up tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
De Rossi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stend Up.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Stend Up. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stend Up looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Stend Up shoots in but no luck this time.
De Rossi misses with a left hand

and Stend Up counters by moving into the clinch.
Stend Up is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables De Rossi to keep the fight standing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

De Rossi has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Stend Up manages to pull guard.
De Rossi wants to stand but Stend Up is controlling his posture from full guard.
De Rossi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stend Up. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
De Rossi won't allow Stend Up to sweep him here.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Stend Up has De Rossi pulled in close to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Stend Up tries to clinch there but De Rossi circles away.
Stend Up shoots for a takedown but De Rossi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Stend Up walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. De Rossi checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Stend Up gets cracked with a nice right hand there by De Rossi.
De Rossi throws a lazy head kick
and Stend Up counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
De Rossi misses with a head kick.
Stend Up seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Stend Up goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Stend Up avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
De Rossi pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Stend Up avoids the head kick by De Rossi.
Stend Up is trying hard to land a takedown here. De Rossi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Stend Up is breathing heavily.
De Rossi throws a sloppy head kick and Stend Up moves out of range easily.
Giuseppe De Rossi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Stend Up fails with a takedown attempt.
Stend Up sets himself, and De Rossi steps forward looking for the clinch! Stend Up avoids it this time.
De Rossi misses with a few strikes there.
Stend Up tries for a takedown but De Rossi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And De Rossi tries to counter it with a takedown but Stend Up pushes his down on his head and steps out.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Stend Up appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Stend Up slips a straight right by De Rossi.
De Rossi throws a right and a left that both miss.
Stend Up closes the distance and clinches up with De Rossi, looking for a takedown. Stend Up pushes De Rossi against the cage but De Rossi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
De Rossi misses with a wild combination.
De Rossi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Stend Up looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
De Rossi throws a head kick that misses.

Stend Up drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
De Rossi tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
De Rossi is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stend Up takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Stend Up jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… De Rossi is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by De Rossi and Stend Up has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Stend Up decides to stand up, so the ref orders De Rossi to his feet.
De Rossi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Stend Up darts in looking for a takedown but De Rossi gets double underhooks and turns Stend Up into the cage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

De Rossi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Stend Up uses good head movement to avoid the hook from De Rossi.

Stend Up has closed the distance and engaged De Rossi in a clinch.
Stend Up fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Stend Up. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stend Up takes a knee right on the jaw!

De Rossi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Stend Up moves in looking to clinch but De Rossi pushes him off.
No luck for Stend Up with that takedown attempt.
De Rossi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Stend Up takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Stend Up has his hands on De Rossi's head, controlling the position.

Stend Up is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Stend Up has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but De Rossi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Stend Up lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Stend Up stopping the sweep attempt from De Rossi.
De Rossi is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
De Rossi preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Stend Up controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Giuseppe De Rossi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

De Rossi throws a head kick that misses.
A combination from De Rossi does no damage.
De Rossi cracks Stend Up with an open hand slap.
Stend Up shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jack Stend Up is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Stend Up fails to pull the fight into his guard.

De Rossi gets control of Stend Up's arms and successfully pulls guard. De Rossi will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
De Rossi wants to improve his position but instead Stend Up has moved into half guard.
De Rossi is trying to control but can't.
De Rossi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Stend Up shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. De Rossi manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Stend Up seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Stend Up won't allow De Rossi to get back to his feet.
De Rossi looking to control but Stend Up passes into half guard.
Stend Up controlling the action here.
Stend Up thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed De Rossi's head.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stend Up performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Stend Up is working for a kimura but De Rossi is defending it quite comfortably.

De Rossi avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Stend Up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Giuseppe De Rossi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Stend Up fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Stend Up. That's going to take a lot out of him.
De Rossi thows a left - swing and a miss!
Stend Up shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
De Rossi with the counter takedown but Stend Up avoids it easily.
Stend Up shoots for a double leg takedown but De Rossi sprawls well. He's pushed Stend Up's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
De Rossi changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Stend Up drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
De Rossi throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Stend Up tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
De Rossi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Stend Up.
De Rossi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Stend Up moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Stend Up tries to clinch up but De Rossi circles away and keeps his distance.

Stend Up moves into range and clinches up with De Rossi.
Stend Up lands a nice shot to the body.
De Rossi gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Stend Up.
Stend Up wants to break free but De Rossi has control.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Giuseppe De Rossi.
I've got De Rossi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
