Maynard comes to the cage accompanied by Roy Jones - Can't Be Stopped. Correa Santiago has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maynard keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Maynard clinches up against the cage.
Santiago fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Maynard escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Santiago tries to clinch up but Maynard circles away and keeps his distance.
A punch combination from Maynard misses.
Maynard fails to land with a series of punches.
A combination from Maynard does no damage.
Santiago fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Max Maynard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Correa Santiago.
Santiago throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Maynard's waist but Maynard gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Santiago off to one side.
Santiago has a takedown stuffed.
Santiago misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Maynard cracks Santiago with a right hand to the side of the head.
Horrible takedown by Santiago or perhaps it was just good defense by Maynard which made him look bad.

Maynard bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Santiago shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Maynard as he jumps to the side.

Maynard moves into range and connects with a jab.
Max Maynard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maynard throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Santiago.
Max Maynard is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Santiago counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Maynard controls Santiago momentarily but Santiago frees himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Santiago counters with a single leg into guard. Maynard didn't expect that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Santiago tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Santiago has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Santiago wants to control but Maynard is keeping him busy.
Maynard knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Santiago on the ground.

Santiago goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Maynard rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Santiago's guard! Nice work there by Maynard!
Maynard wants to pass the guard but Santiago is keeping the position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Santiago can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Maynard controls the pace.

Maynard is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Santiago has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Maynard should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Santiago has tightened it up now! Maynard should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
