Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Naoko Marui (ranked 1710 p4p, 1538 weight class) and Christopher Irwin (ranked 198 p4p, 169 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 15 - 1, fighting out of London, Naoko Marui!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christopher Irwin!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Irwin takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Irwin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Marui moves away.

Irwin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Marui, pushing him back against the cage.
Marui swings wildly with an uppercut but Irwin uses good head movement to avoid it.

Irwin has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Marui clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Marui is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Irwin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marui was well out of range. Poor timing from Irwin.
Irwin swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Marui counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Irwin thinking.
Irwin tries to clinch but Marui is having none of it.
Marui is looking to counter punch.
Irwin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Irwin closes this distance looking for a takedown but Marui circles away.
Marui throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Irwin.
Irwin with the counter takedown but Marui avoids it easily.
Irwin tries to clinch but Marui moves out of range.
Marui misses the shot to the body.
Irwin misses with a right hand
and Marui counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Marui rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Irwin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Irwin feints the counter takedown.
Marui works the jab nicely.
Irwin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marui's waist but Marui gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Irwin off to one side.
The fight stays on the outside here - Irwin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Marui pushes Irwin up against the cage in a clinch.
Marui struggles to land a body shot inside as Irwin controls his hands.
Irwin wants to take the fight to the mat but Marui manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Naoko Marui has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Christopher Irwin.
Marui stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Marui lands a right hand.
Irwin wants a takedown.
Irwin tries to score a body lock takedown but Marui shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Marui lands a hook to the side of the head.

Irwin lands a takedown into guard.
Marui wants to stand and escape but Irwin is having none of it.
Irwin engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Marui is trying to control the position but Irwin postures up.
Marui is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at JAG Battle Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Irwin won't allow Marui to sweep him here.

Irwin wants to control from the top but Marui keeps moving.
Irwin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Irwin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Irwin trying to control the position from guard on top but Marui is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Irwin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Marui sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Irwin clinches up with Marui and pushes him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Irwin goes for a takedown attempt but Marui pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Marui avoids the body shot from Irwin.

Irwin drives through and clinches with Marui against the cage.
Marui throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Irwin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Marui avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Marui lands an uppercut.

Irwin is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Irwin drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Marui lands with a left to the head.
Marui scores with a shot to the side of Irwin's head.
Marui scores with a shoulder strike.
Marui lands a right hand.
A shot in the inside from Marui.
Marui goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Irwin's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Irwin changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Marui fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Christopher Irwin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Irwin is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Marui is defending well.
Marui pushes Irwin back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Irwin has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Marui clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Well, with Irwin on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Marui is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Irwin is hanging on to Marui's back as he tries to escape.

Marui trying to control the hands but Irwin won't let him.

Marui is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Irwin working for a choke but Marui is defending well.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Irwin has got one arm under Marui's chin. This could be trouble... Marui trying to control the other hand but Irwin gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Marui has tapped out! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Christopher Irwin!
Christopher Irwin was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
