Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Phillip Morningstar (ranked 2388 p4p, 4971 weight class) and Junior Johnson (ranked 299 p4p, 522 weight class). Phillip Morningstar had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phillip Morningstar!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Junior Johnson!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Daniel Bishop and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morningstar dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Johnson walks forward, straight into a front kick from Morningstar.
Johnson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Morningstar throws a head kick but Johnson moves out of range.
Johnson feints a counter leg kick.
Johnson takes a kick to the side of the head.
Morningstar throws a right and a left that Johnson avoids nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morningstar stalks Johnson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Johnson's face. Johnson staggers backwards, shaken.

It looks like Junior Johnson has been cut.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Morningstar.

Morningstar moves into the clinch.
Morningstar digs a right hand into Johnson's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Johnson's gas tank.
Morningstar misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Morningstar definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Morningstar breaks the clinch.
Johnson sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Morningstar scores with a leg kick.
Johnson has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Morningstar tries a head kick but it misses.
Johnson feints the counter takedown.
Johnson doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Morningstar lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Morningstar scores with a kick to the body.
Johnson takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Phillip Morningstar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Morningstar keeps Johnson at a distance using the push kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Morningstar throws a shot to the body.
Morningstar tries to clinch

and Johnson counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Morningstar!

Morningstar throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Johnson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Morningstar throws the kick towards the body but Johnson avoids it.
Morningstar is looking to wear down Johnson with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Morningstar lands a body shot.
Johnson slips a jab and a cross from Morningstar.
And Johnson tries to counter it with a takedown but Morningstar pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Morningstar throws a front kick that sends Johnson stumbling back into the cage.

Crunch! Morningstar slams his shin into Johnson's torso.
Phillip Morningstar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Morningstar throws a series of strikes that have Johnson backpedaling.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Morningstar.
It seemed like Johnson was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Morningstar closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Johnson looking to stall.
Johnson jumps guard but Morningstar turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Morningstar breaks the clinch.
Johnson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Phillip Morningstar dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Junior Johnson's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Morningstar throws a sloppy head kick

and Johnson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Morningstar pushes Johnson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

and Johnson counters with a single leg into guard. Morningstar didn't expect that.
Johnson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Morningstar's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Johnson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Johnson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Morningstar has managed to free his arm - good work.
Johnson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Morningstar is looking for a sweep. Johnson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Still in half guard, Johnson seems content to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Morningstar knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Morningstar is looking to control Johnson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Morningstar avoid being mounted?
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Morningstar is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Johnson can do to turn this around?
Johnson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Johnson unloads with some shots from mount but Morningstar bucks and avoids them well.
Johnson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Johnson goes for an armbar but Morningstar turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Morningstar.

Johnson controlling the position.

Johnson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Morningstar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Johnson is tightening it up a little... Morningstar has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Morningstar reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Morningstar taps out! Nice BJJ there by Johnson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Junior Johnson!
Junior Johnson is the new lightweight champion!
Junior Johnson decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
