PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yoji Anjo Anjo (ranked 2521 p4p, 3738 weight class) and Tayaen Porfirigo (ranked 331 p4p, 439 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Tayaen Porfirigo was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yoji Anjo Anjo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tayaen Porfirigo!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, John Mangel and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Porfirigo shoots for a takedown but Anjo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Anjo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Porfirigo was covering up waiting for the punch and Anjo finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Porfirigo looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Anjo passes into half guard.
Porfirigo throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Porfirigo is trying to control but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Anjo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Porfirigo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Anjo stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Porfirigo tries for a takedown but Anjo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Anjo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Porfirigo is just riding it out for now. Anjo eventually gives up the hold.

Anjo is really struggling to control Porfirigo but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Porfirigo tries to roll over but Anjo keeps him under control.

Anjo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Porfirigo is just riding it out for now. Anjo eventually gives up the hold.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Anjo is looking to work some ground and pound but Porfirigo has wrist control.

Porfirigo is looking for a triangle but Anjo pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Porfirigo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Anjo defends it easily.

Porfirigo isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Anjo stacks Porfirigo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Anjo!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Porfirigo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Anjo pinned against the cage. Anjo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Anjo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Porfirigo is trying to defend but Anjo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Porfirigo has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Anjo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Porfirigo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Yoji Anjo Anjo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Anjo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Porfirigo is looking to control Anjo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Porfirigo avoid being mounted?

Anjo wants to work for an arm triangle but Porfirigo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Porfirigo makes his way to full guard, as Anjo worked for a kimura.
Anjo won't allow Porfirigo to get back to his feet.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Anjo tries to free his leg and advance position but Porfirigo is retaining full guard.
Anjo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Porfirigo can do to turn this around?
Porfirigo is trying to control the position but Anjo postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Anjo decides to stand back up. Anjo steps back and let's Porfirigo get back to his feet.

Porfirigo gets caught flat footed, as Anjo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Anjo stands up over Porfirigo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Anjo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Porfirigo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Anjo postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Porfirigo to stand up.

Anjo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Porfirigo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well Anjo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

During a confident post fight interview, Yoji Anjo Anjo thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
Tayaen Porfirigo spoke after the fight, saying 'I like the taste off my blod!!!'.
