PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rob Roy (ranked 60 p4p, 68 weight class) and James Cole (ranked 9 p4p, 10 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Roy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 9 - 2, fighting out of New York, James Cole!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Hirohito Nitta and Ren Mimura.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cole scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Good standup being displayed there by Roy as he connects with a hook.
Roy moves out of range as Cole throws a body kick.
Roy fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cole manages to avoid it.
Cole pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Cole blocks a jab.
Cole looks to land a combination. Roy sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cole shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Roy eats them both and turns towards Cole to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Cole takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Cole misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cole uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Roy.

Cole forces Roy back against the cage and clinches.
Cole looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Roy manages to break the clinch.
Cole throws a leg kick but Roy sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Cole sizes up Roy with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Roy feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Coles jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Roy wants to land a leg kick but Cole is out of range.
Cole misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cole moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Cole clinches up against the cage.
A nice left hand lands by Cole.
Cole misses with a punch on the inside.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Roy tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Cole avoids it.
Roy lands a nice shot to the body.
Cole softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Roy blocks a body shot from Cole.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Roy.
Roy lands a good knee to the midsection. Cole won't want to take too many of those.
Roy lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Roy breaks the clinch.
Cole tries to clinch but Roy moves out of range.
Roy jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Cole misses the shot to the body.
Roy fires out a quick counter leg kick but Cole just manages to avoid it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Roy pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Roy swats away the attempt to clinch by Cole.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
A nice leg kick lands there from Roy.
Roy works Cole's body with a nice hook.
Cole lands with a hook. Roy tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Cole tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Roy counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Roy looks to score with a jab to the body but Cole is just out of range.
Roy scores with a crisp jab that stopped Cole in his tracks.
Roy misses the jab.
Cole throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Cole has closed the distance and engaged Roy in a clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Cole.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but James Cole will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Roy lands a big uppercut and Cole crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Cole looks OK. Roy waves Cole back to his feet!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Cole is still on wobbly legs! Can Roy finish him?
Cole is breathing heavily.
Both fighters circle each other, looking for something big. Roy moves in and throws an overhand right. That hurt Cole! Roy continues to tee off on Cole, landing with a left and a right! Roy connects with a right hand that leaves Cole sleeping against the cage! What a finish by Roy!
