Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Horacio Hornblower (ranked 1287 p4p, 2447 weight class) and Kevin Walters (ranked 179 p4p, 296 weight class). Kevin Walters has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Horacio Hornblower 's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Horacio Hornblower !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kevin Walters!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hornblower looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Walters circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hornblower misses with the body kick

and Walters counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Walters is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hornblower is looking to stand back up but Walters counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Hornblower .
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Walters working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Walters looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hornblower with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walters is controlling the pace.

Hornblower has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Walters is on him like a limpet, forcing Hornblower back against the cage.
We've been hearing reports that Hornblower has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Walters tries to pull guard but Hornblower holds him up against the cage and eventually Walters drops back down to his feet.

Hornblower wants to stand but Walters has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Walters had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hornblower defends it easily.
Walters looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hornblower is one step ahead there.
Walters is pulling down on Hornblower 's head. It's preventing any offense from Hornblower , at least for the moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Walters is looking for a triangle but Hornblower pushes his legs off easily.
Hornblower tries to stand but Walters is controlling from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sloppy strikes from Hornblower . Those never looked like landing.
Hornblower misses with a kick to the body
and Hornblower takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Hornblower bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Walters misses with a straight left.
Walters ducks under a wild hook from Hornblower .
Hornblower tries to close the distance and clinch but Walters swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Walters lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

and Walters counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Walters.

Hornblower pushes Walters off and gets back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hornblower throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Walters decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hornblower 's guard.
Hornblower wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Walters manages to pass to side control.

Hornblower tries to kick Walters off but Walters keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Walters is taking a breather. Hornblower says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Hornblower wants to get back to his feet.
Hornblower is trying to escape back to his feet but Walters uses the scramble to pass into side control.
You can see the frustration on Hornblower 's face as Walters controls the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Hornblower misses with the combination.
Hornblower throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Walters steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Hornblower .
Hornblower fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Walters checks it well.

and Hornblower takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hornblower . Walters does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hornblower looks to land a body kick but Walters moved away.
Walters is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Walters is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hornblower is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hornblower seems a little lost for a moment, as Walters dominates the positioning.
Hornblower is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Walters goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Hornblower rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Walters's guard! Nice work there by Hornblower !
Walters is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Walters tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Walters has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Walters drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Hornblower defends it well.

Hornblower swings wildly with an uppercut but Walters uses good head movement to avoid it.

Walters breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Walters slips under a jab.
And Walters tries to counter it with a takedown but Hornblower pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Hornblower closes the distance but Walters moves to the side
and Walters counters with a stiff right hand.
Horacio Hornblower seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walters thuds his right hand into Hornblower 's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Walters fails to land with a series of punches.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Walters cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

A big strike lands for Walters! That's really hurt Hornblower and he's turned his back - Walters keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Walters jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
