PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nick Shamrock (ranked 1588 p4p, 4104 weight class) and Mono Loco (ranked 175 p4p, 373 weight class). Shamrock comes to the cage accompanied by One Winged Angel by The Black Mages. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 54 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Shamrock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mono Loco!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shamrock misses with a hook.
A shot to the body from Shamrock misses

and Loco counters with a takedown into side control.
Loco is looking to take a break and control but Shamrock is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Shamrock wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Loco is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shamrock has escaped the position, nice work there.
Shamrock is pushing Loco's head away, looking to escape. Loco manages to hold on to the position though.
Loco misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Shamrock trying to control but Loco flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
What can Shamrock do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Loco patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Shamrock trying to get back to his feet but Loco is in full control for now.

Loco is looking for a choke. Shamrock gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Shamrock manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.

Shamrock postures up.
Shamrock tries to stand but Loco is controlling from the bottom.
Shamrock won't allow Loco to sweep him here.
Loco is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Loco manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shamrock manages to get himself to full guard.

Shamrock is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Loco is controlling him.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Loco loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Loco's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Loco tries to free his leg and advance position but Shamrock is retaining full guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Loco is pushing down on Shamrock's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shamrock is fighting to maintain full guard but Loco has managed to sneak the leg through.
Shamrock slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mono Loco dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Loco misses with a takedown
and Shamrock counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Loco has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Shamrock!

It looks like Mono Loco has been cut.
Shamrock fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Loco misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Loco sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Loco or perhaps it was just good defense by Shamrock, which made it look bad.
Nick Shamrock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mono Loco.
Shamrock lands a glancing blow to the side of Loco's head.

Shamrock lands a jab-cross combination.
Loco changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shamrock tries to avoid it but Loco manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shamrock to the ground. Shamrock escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A decent looking cross lands there for Shamrock.
Shamrock connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Loco fails with a takedown attempt.
As Loco backs away, Shamrock returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Shamrock keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Shamrock scoring well with a low kick there.
Shamrock seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Mono Loco is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Loco takes one on the button.

Loco doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Shamrock counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Shamrock misses with a leg kick

and Loco counters with a single leg into guard. Shamrock didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Loco is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Shamrock looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shamrock pulls Loco in to control the position.
Shamrock bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Loco's guard.

Shamrock tries to stand but Loco is controlling from the bottom.

Loco is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Shamrock is aware though and is defending well.
Shamrock wants to get up but he can't break Loco's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Loco pulls Shamrock in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Loco takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Loco has his takedown stuffed
and Shamrock counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Loco shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shamrock defends it nicely.
Shamrock throws a looping overhand right but Loco ducks down to avoid it.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

and Shamrock counters with a one-two to the body.
Loco closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shamrock circles away.

Shamrock scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Loco doesn't seem bothered though.

Shamrock throws a big counter combination but Loco scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Loco feints and as Shamrock raises his hands in defense, Loco changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Shamrock wants to get back to his feet but Loco is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Shamrock connects with a good right hand that stumbles Loco. Loco circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Shamrock closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Loco is working for takedown but Shamrock is calmly controlling the position for now.
Shamrock misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Shamrock tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Loco avoids it.

Loco wants to take the fight to the mat but Shamrock manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Loco takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Loco wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Shamrock lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Loco is trying to pull guard but Shamrock has him pressed against the cage.
Loco has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Shamrock after a bit of a struggle.

Loco darts in looking for a takedown but Shamrock gets double underhooks and turns Loco into the cage.
Shamrock uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Loco has time to react.
Shamrock scores with a one two! Loco had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Loco ducks right into an uppercut from Shamrock.

Loco is rocked!
Loco shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shamrock pinned against the cage. Shamrock gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Shamrock lands a nice looking body shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nick Shamrock showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Shamrock has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Nick Shamrock was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
