PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Martin (ranked 4325 p4p, 5488 weight class) and Pygmy Lack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Pygmy Lack!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Anthony Taglia and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin misses with a right hand
and Lack counters with a left and a right that stings Martin.
Lack will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lack throws a sloppy head kick and Martin moves out of range easily.
Lack misses with a head kick.
Martin appears to be looking for a big counter.
Lack fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Martin avoids it really well and circles away.
A counter left hand to the body from Martin misses its target.
Martin jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Lack has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

It looks like Pygmy Lack has been cut.

Lack clinches up against the cage.
Martin prevents a takedown attempt there.
Martin tries to break free but Lack pushes him back against the cage.
Lack is trying to break the clinch but Martin has him pressed against the cage.
Martin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lack pulls his leg out and moves away.
Lack dives in for a single leg takedown but Martin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
John Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pygmy Lack.

Lack has managed to clinch.
Martin is trying to break the clinch but Lack has him pressed against the cage.

Lack has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Martin uses from the top position.

Martin is fighting to break Lack's control of his arms but Lack is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Lack working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Martin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Martin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Martin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lack is on top in guard.

Martin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lack is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Lack advances to half guard.
Martin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lack on the ground.
Lack looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Martin trying to control but Lack postures up.

Martin wants to sweep but Lack has passed to side control!

Martin is letting Lack control him for a moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Lack tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lack has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Martin tries to improve position but can't.
Martin is trying to control Lack's posture but Lack avoids it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Lack clinches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Martin drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A body shot lands from Lack.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Pygmy Lack dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Pygmy Lack's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Martin misses with a left hand
and Lack makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Martin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Lack shoots for a takedown but Martin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Lack goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Lack works Martin's body with a nice hook.
Martin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Lack.
Martin throws a jab but it's blocked by Lack.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lack is defended easily by Martin.
John Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pygmy Lack.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lack fails to land the takedown.
Martin misses with a lunging right hand
and Lack counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Lack escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Martin throws a jab but it's blocked by Lack.
A combination from Martin does no damage.
Lack looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Martin. Lack does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lack has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lack fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
No luck for Lack with that takedown attempt.
Lack is breathing heavily.
Lack uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Martin.
John Martin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Martin lands a really nice looking cross but Lack seems unphased.
Nice body punch from Martin.
Lack takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
John Martin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Martin throws a series of punches but Lack moves out of range.
Martin throws a body punch but Lack moves out of range.
Martin swats away the attempt to clinch by Lack.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Martin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Martin throws out a loose jab but Lack uses good head movement to avoid it.

Martin is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Lack's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Martin tries to pull guard but Lack forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Martin wants to take the fight to the mat but Lack manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Lack keeps control of Martin as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Lack scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Martin throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Lack blocks it with crossed arms.

Lack breaks the clinch.
Martin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lack moves away.
Lack drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Martin defends it well.
Martin misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lack.
Martin misses with a hook. Lack ducked under it nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lack slips a straight right by Martin.
Martin scores with a decent looking hook.
Lack scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Lack changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Martin tries to avoid it but Lack manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Martin to the ground. Martin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Martin is looking to counter punch.
Lack staying out of range there.
Martin lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Lack is rocked!

Lack is still on wobbly legs! Can Martin finish him?
Lack tries to get into range but Martin steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Lack! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! Martin scores the big KO victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). John Martin!
A relieved looking John Martin thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
