PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sun Chang (ranked 5424 p4p, 24031 weight class) and Doesnt Matter (ranked 316 p4p, 350 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sun Chang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doesnt Matter!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Sano and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Chang counters with a good, hard body kick but Matter shrugs it off.
Matter shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Chang defends it nicely.
Matter takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Chang keeps the fight on the outside.
Matter fails to land with a series of punches.
Matter wants to clinch up but Chang keeps it at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chang misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Matter flicks out a counter leg kick but Chang steps away.
Matter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chang as he avoids it easily.
Sun Chang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doesnt Matter.
Matter takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Matter tries to close the distance and clinch but Chang swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
It looked like Chang was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Chang forces Matter back against the ropes and clinches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
With the fighters up against the ropes, Matter throws an elbow but misses.
Matter crunches a lovely knee into Chang's ribcage.

Matter breaks from the clinch.

Chang moves into the clinch.

Matter manages to break the clinch.
Chang misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Matter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Matter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Chang explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Sun Chang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Matter is looking to clinch but Chang is avoiding it.
Chang tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Matter tried to score with a low kick but Chang checks it.
Matter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chang tries to avoid it but Matter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chang to the ground. Chang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A lazy left from Matter finds it's target.

Chang drives through and clinches with Matter against the ropes.

Chang pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Chang throws the kick towards the body but Matter avoids it.
Chang delivers a nice body kick.
Chang circles away from the clinch attempt.
Matter misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Matter looks for a takedown but Chang sprawls well.

Chang feints and as Matter raises his hands in defense, Chang changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Matter wants to get back to his feet but Chang passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Chang looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Matter is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Matter is trying to control but Chang passes into side control!
Matter wants to control but Chang postures up.

Chang decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Chang moves into range and clinches up with Matter.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chang is trying to pull guard but Matter turns him against the ropes and we stay in the clinch.
Matter taking a breather.
Matter is pushing Chang up against the ropes, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Matter drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Matter breaks the clinch.
Matter has his takedown stuffed

and Chang counters by moving into the clinch.

Chang jumps into guard, dragging Matter to the mat.
Chang has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sun Chang dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Chang checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Chang looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Matter wants to clinch
and Chang counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Matter dives in for a single leg takedown but Chang sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.
Chang throws a head kick but Matter moves out of range.
Sun Chang is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Matter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chang as he avoids it easily.
Matter goes for a double leg but Chang avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Chang continues to drive forward.
Sun Chang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doesnt Matter.

Chang moves into range and clinches up with Matter.

Chang successfully pulls guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chang is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Chang wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Matter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Matter decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Matter throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Matter tries to clinch up.
Chang is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Matter can do to turn this around?
Matter looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Matter clinches with his opponent.

Chang turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Chang manages to end up in side control.
Matter tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Matter taking shots to the head.
Chang tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Chang is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Chang moves into the clinch successfully.
Matter tries to pull guard but Chang won't allow it.

Chang pulls guard effortlessly.
Matter tries to free his leg and advance position but Chang is retaining full guard.
Matter trying to control but Chang is working from the bottom.
Matter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Chang manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Matter manages to get himself to full guard.

Matter has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Chang has passed into side control.

Matter is looking to reverse the position.

Chang looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Chang works to advance to full mount. Matter defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Matter wants to control but Chang is having none of it.
Matter might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Chang haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Chang counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Matter stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Chang.

Chang moves into the clinch successfully.
Matter is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.

Matter breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Matter throws a head kick but Chang moves out of range.
Matter shoots in but Chang avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Matter is breathing heavily.
That kick from Chang tenderised Matter's leg. Matter is trying to keep his angry face on.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sun Chang dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Matter drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Chang wants to stand up but Matter is controlling him.

Chang is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Chang escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Chang shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Chang was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Matter wants to control but Chang postures up.

Chang is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Matter has escaped the position, nice work there.
Matter tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Matter trying desperately to get to his feet.
Chang moves to the back position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Matter rolls, trying to escape but Chang keeps control of the position.

Chang is persistently looking for the submission but Matter is defending it well.
Matter trying to control the hands but Chang breaks the grip.
Sun Chang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Chang has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Matter's body.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Sun Chang showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chang has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
