Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Monthouse (ranked 5786 p4p, 4623 weight class) and Edward Leaf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dwight Monthouse !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edward Leaf!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Franklyn Lucas and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monthouse attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Monthouse tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Leaf wants to land a leg kick but Monthouse is out of range.
Monthouse throws a counter high kick but Leaf was just alert enough to avoid it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Monthouse looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Monthouse clinches up against the cage.
Leaf throws an elbow that misses.
Leaf landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Leaf misses with a punch to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Monthouse jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Leaf walks away with a smile on his face. Monthouse gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Monthouse throws a head kick but Leaf moves out of range.

Leaf misses with a head kick.
Monthouse avoids the head kick by Leaf.
A shot to the body from Leaf misses

and Monthouse decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Leaf's guard.
Leaf utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Monthouse won't allow Leaf to sweep him here.
Monthouse wants to control from the top but Leaf keeps moving.
Monthouse throws a big right hand that misses.
Monthouse being controlled here momentarily.
Monthouse has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Monthouse has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Leaf is proving hard to escape from.

Monthouse sitting in guard here, content to control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Leaf wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Monthouse 's corner calls for a 1-2. Monthouse obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Leaf ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Monthouse moves away.
Leaf pivots, looking for a leg kick but Monthouse is out of range and Leaf settles back down.
Monthouse looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Leaf misses with a few strikes there.
Monthouse tries to clinch but Leaf moves out of range.
Leaf throws a combination that misses

and Monthouse counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Leaf preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Monthouse controls from within his opponent's guard.
Leaf is trying to keep Monthouse in close.
Monthouse is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Monthouse 's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Leaf looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Leaf has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Monthouse postures up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Monthouse trying to control the position from guard on top but Leaf is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Monthouse throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Leaf's waist but Leaf gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Monthouse off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dwight Monthouse . That's going to take a lot out of him.

Monthouse gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Leaf is trying to break the clinch but Monthouse has him pressed against the cage.

Monthouse jumps into guard, dragging Leaf to the mat.

Leaf looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Monthouse trying to control here.
Leaf really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Monthouse . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Still in half guard, Leaf seems content to control.
Leaf scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Leaf is controlling the pace.
Monthouse is looking to control Leaf's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Monthouse avoid being mounted?

Monthouse is staying active underneath Leaf, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Leaf is trying to control the position but Monthouse postures up.

Monthouse decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Monthouse closes the distance and clinches up with Leaf, looking for a takedown. Monthouse pushes Leaf against the cage but Leaf circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Monthouse is keen to just control but Leaf is a slippery customer.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Monthouse decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Leaf misses with a hook.

Monthouse shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Leaf is breathing heavily.
Leaf is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Monthouse in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Monthouse shoots for a takedown but Leaf saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Leaf scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Monthouse looks for a takedown but Leaf sprawls well.
Leaf moves out of range as Monthouse throws a body kick.

and Monthouse counters with a three punch combo that has Leaf backing up. Leaf nods at Monthouse to acknowledge the strikes.

You can see the frustration on Monthouse 's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Leaf looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Leaf takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Leaf wants to take a breather but Monthouse is having none of it.
Leaf wants to pass the guard but Monthouse is defending well.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Leaf throws a leg kick but Monthouse sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Monthouse is looking to clinch.
Leaf stuffs the takedown.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Monthouse tries to clinch but Leaf is having none of it.
Edward Leaf has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Monthouse pulls out of a head kick attempt.

I would just about give that final round to Edward Leaf.
I think Monthouse has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Dwight Monthouse decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
