PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Graham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivor Smallun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alexander Graham had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 136.5lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Alexander Graham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ivor Smallun!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Colin Fotheringham and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smallun misses with a looping right.
Alexander Graham seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Graham takes the fight into the clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Smallun.
Smallun leaning his opponent against the ropes.

Smallun breaks from the clinch.
Horrible takedown by Graham or perhaps it was just good defense by Smallun which made him look bad.

Smallun avoids a strike by Graham and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in Graham's guard! Fantastic escape!

Smallun rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Graham moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Smallun shoots in for a double leg but Graham sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Graham is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smallun is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smallun has escaped and now he's on top!

Smallun stands and steps away. Graham gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Smallun will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Graham shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smallun as he avoids it easily.

Smallun fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Graham manages to avoid it.

Graham postures up in Smallun's guard and throws a big left but Smallun blocks it.

Ivor Smallun showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Smallun shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Graham pinned against the cage. Graham gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Graham throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smallun's waist but Smallun gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Graham off to one side.

Graham tries to stand but Smallun is controlling his head.
Smallun is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Graham is controlling him well.
Graham misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smallun can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Smallun clinches up with Graham and pushes him back against the ropes.

Smallun pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Smallun scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Graham doesn't seem bothered though.
Smallun lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Graham shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Graham drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Smallun manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Graham has Smallun in his guard.

Ivor Smallun is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Smallun is looking to take a break and control but Graham is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smallun lands a lovely overhand right.
Smallun misses with a combination

and Graham counters with a single leg into guard. Smallun didn't expect that.
Graham wants to pass the guard but Smallun is keeping the position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Graham throws and elbow that misses. Smallun uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Graham's guard. Nice move by Smallun!
Alexander Graham has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Smallun won't allow Graham to sweep him here.
