Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rene Lafayette (ranked 66 p4p, 327 weight class) and Dwight Schrute (ranked 13 p4p, 52 weight class). Lafayette comes to the cage accompanied by Erasure - Always. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rene Lafayette!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dwight Schrute!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schrute throws an overhand right that lands on Lafayette's shoulder, as Lafayette tries to avoid the shot.

Lafayette throws a right and a left that both miss.
Lafayette jabs at Schrute's body.
Lafayette scores with a hook to the body. Schrute takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Lafayette was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schrute uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Lafayette.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Schrute in particular looking to stall.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

That was a close round but I would say that Rene Lafayette will probably get the nod.

Schrute felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Schrute tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Lafayette shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Schrute's guard.

Schrute wants to hit a sweep here but Lafayette passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Schrute there!

Lafayette uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Schrute.

Oooooh!!! Schrute has knocked Lafayette down with a huge combo! Schrute steps away and waves a wobbly Lafayette back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Lafayette throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Schrute's waist but Schrute gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lafayette off to one side.

Schrute unleashes a big counter combination but Lafayette bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Schrute loads up on a big right hand but Lafayette slips the punch.
Schrute bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Lafayette's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lafayette looks to score with a jab to the body but Schrute is just out of range.

and Schrute counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Lafayette stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Schrute has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.

and Schrute scores with a counter punch that sends Lafayette to the canvas! Schrute smells blood - he's punishing Lafayette with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Lafayette has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
