I think Knox might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to One Step Closer | Linkin Park. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 2, fighting out of London, Porthos Knox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Matt Askren!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knox slips a jab from Askren.
Askren throws the left hand but Knox avoids the punch easily.
Knox was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Knox lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Askren throws a body punch but Knox moves out of range.
Knox leaves Askren with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Knox wants to clinch up but Askren keeps it at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Knox paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Knox throws a good cross that connects.
Knox takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Knox misses the body punch

and Askren counters with a shoot takedown. Knox fights it but they end up in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Knox is controlling Askren's posture.
Knox wants to sweep but no luck.
Askren landing with the ground and pound.
Askren being controlled here momentarily.
Askren slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Askren wants to control from the top but Knox keeps moving.
Askren in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Askren looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Askren is looking to pass into half guard but Knox pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Knox is in guard.

Knox controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Knox lying in Askren's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Askren decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Knox taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Matt Askren!
Matt Askren seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
Porthos Knox was interviewed post fight and said '"If you haven't lost in this sport, you haven't fought the right guys yet." (Matt Hughes)'.
