PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Hammer (ranked 3141 p4p, 4767 weight class) and Jonathan St Pierre (ranked 409 p4p, 527 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jonathan St Pierre!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

St Pierre shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than St Pierre was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

St Pierre is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hammer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Hammer prevents St Pierre from moving into mount.
Hammer wants to control but St Pierre postures up.
St Pierre throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
St Pierre controls the position.
St Pierre scoring with punches and elbows.
St Pierre looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Hammer is avoiding damage well.
Hammer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for St Pierre on the ground.
The referee asks St Pierre politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. St Pierre prefers to stall for the moment though.

St Pierre tries to advance to mount but can't.
Hammer is looking to regain half guard here but St Pierre keeps moving and retains side control.
Hammer seems a little lost for a moment, as St Pierre dominates the positioning.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
St Pierre is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hammer will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

St Pierre is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hammer has escaped the position, nice work there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

St Pierre is trying to get an arm triangle but Hammer is defending well.

St Pierre has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Hammer appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
St Pierre avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Hammer throws St Pierre to one side and escapes!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


St Pierre shoots in and bounces Hammer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Hammer could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
St Pierre is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

St Pierre distracts Hammer with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Hammer is working an open guard so St Pierre takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hammer motions for St Pierre to come forward. Hammer throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Hammer gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hammer is wriggling around but St Pierre manages to pass to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The adventures of St Pierre the control monster continue. Boring.
St Pierre is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

St Pierre seems to be looking for submissions.
Hammer wants to improve his position but St Pierre is controlling well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with St Pierre in particular looking to stall.

St Pierre is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hammer is just riding it out for now. St Pierre eventually gives up the hold.
Hammer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jonathan St Pierre showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

St Pierre is taking a breather. Hammer says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hammer is trying to maintain the position but St Pierre is very close to passing his half guard.
St Pierre landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
St Pierre perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Hammer is defending against the submission attempts here by St Pierre.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well St Pierre has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
