Vasquel comes to the cage accompanied by Kung Fu Panda. Automatic Vasquel is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Igor Sousa!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vasquel bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Vasquel swings around for an armbar but Sousa sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Vasquel's guard.
Vasquel trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vasquel keeping moving, preventing Sousa from controlling successfully.
Sousa wants to stand but Vasquel has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Sousa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Sousa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Vasquel knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Vasquel has control of Sousa's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Sousa regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Vasquel fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Vasquel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sousa keeping moving, preventing Vasquel from controlling successfully.
Vasquel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sousa swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sousa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Vasquel shoots in for a double leg but Sousa sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Vasquel shoots for a takedown but Sousa saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Vasquel sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sousa is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Vasquel thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Vasquel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
