PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cobweb Cooter (ranked 1474 p4p, 2775 weight class) and Barnabas Ungar (ranked 201 p4p, 349 weight class). Cooter's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Porch Honky. Ungar comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Wolf Totem kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Cobweb Cooter had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cobweb Cooter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Barnabas Ungar!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Cooter misses

and Ungar decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cooter's guard.
Cooter pulls Ungar in to control the position.
Ungar sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cooter's guard.
Cooter has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ungar is working away from the top position though.

Ungar is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cooter defends it well.
Ungar missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ungar seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Cooter controlling the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ungar tries to pass to full mount but Cooter defends it.

Cooter wants to improve his position but Ungar is controlling well.
Ungar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cooter does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cooter wants to control but Ungar is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Ungar is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Cooter is trying to maintain the position but Ungar is very close to passing his half guard.
Cooter is not content to let Ungar control the position.
Cooter is doing well to control the position and prevent Ungar from advancing to side control.
Cooter manages to get to full guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Ungar working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Cooter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ungar manages to get himself to full guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cooter is working Ungar over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Cooter keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ungar's head.
Ungar is looking to stand up but Cooter isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cooter trying to control the position from guard on top but Ungar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cooter with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Ungar avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Cooter loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Ungar wants to sweep but no luck.
Cooter is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Cooter drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cooter jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Ungar is looking for a triangle but Cooter pushes his legs off easily.

Ungar looking for a sweep. Not yet Ungar, not yet.
Ungar is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Ungar working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cooter.

Ungar is looking for a triangle but Cooter pushes his legs off easily.
Ungar trying to keep a closed guard but Cooter is proving a slippery customer.
Cooter with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cooter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ungar looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Cooter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Cooter trying to control the position from guard on top but Ungar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cooter with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Cooter tries to free his leg and advance position but Ungar is retaining full guard.
Cooter keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ungar's head.

Ungar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ungar manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cooter manages to get himself to full guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cobweb Cooter will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Cooter misses with a kick to the body

and Ungar counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Cooter!

Ungar goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cooter has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ungar but great work by Cooter.

Cooter throws a strike but Ungar manages to get a kimura sweep and he's found himself on top with the kimura half locked in! This would be a real turnaround! He's torquing it... Will Cooter tap??? YES! He's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Barnabas Ungar!
After the fight, Barnabas Ungar was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
Cobweb Cooter was interviewed post fight and said 'Im feeling lower than a doodle bug right about now.'.
