Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Draven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Draven!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Draven throws a one two combo.


It looks like John Cruz has been cut.
Draven will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Draven closes the distance and pushes Cruz back into the cage.
Cruz goes for a takedown in the clinch but Draven prevents it.
Draven lands a left hand that snaps the head of Cruz backwards.
Cruz is trying to drag Draven to the mat but Draven just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Nice body punch from Draven.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Draven lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Draven gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cruz.

Draven lands a right hand.

Draven's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Draven can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cruz is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Draven is defending well though. Cruz let's go of the attempt for now.

You can see the frustration on Draven's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Draven rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Draven doesn't manage to clinch there - Cruz circles away.
Cruz shoots for a takedown but Draven saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Draven fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cruz, pushing him back against the cage.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cruz in particular looking to stall.
Draven is not content to let Cruz control the position.
Cruz is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Draven is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

and Cruz counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Draven can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cruz controls the pace.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cruz wants to control from the top but Draven keeps moving.
Cruz works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Draven rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cruz moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Draven clinches up with Cruz and pushes him back against the cage.
Cruz gets underhooks to prevent Draven's takedown attempt.
Draven is pressed up against the cage. Cruz has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Draven down to the mat. Draven avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Draven closes the distance looking to clinch

and Cruz counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Draven's guard now.
Cruz wants to control from the top but Draven keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Draven trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Draven is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Cruz has Draven pressed against the cage.
Nice body punch from Draven - that landed with a thud.
Draven wants to break the clinch but can't.

Draven shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Cruz counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Draven's guard now.
Cruz controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cruz tries to free his leg and advance position but Draven is retaining full guard.
Draven throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Draven wants to stand up but Cruz is controlling him.

Cruz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Draven keeps working.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Draven is trying to control Cruz's posture but Cruz avoids it.
Draven is looking for a sweep.

Draven sneaks out the side door and pushes Cruz away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Draven pushes Cruz up against the cage in a clinch.
Draven tries to pull guard but Cruz holds him up against the cage and eventually Draven drops back down to his feet.
Draven swings away with an uppercut that misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Cruz showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Cruz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
