And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Michael Johnstone and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez scores with a push kick.
Rodriguez wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Rodriguez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rodriguez scores with a head kick. Fonseca tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Fonseca avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A decent looking cross lands there for Rodriguez.

Fonseca has his foot on Rodriguez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rodriguez works his way back into a safe position though.
Rodriguez wants to get up but he can't break Fonseca's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Fonseca controls Rodriguez momentarily but Rodriguez frees himself.

Fonseca has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rodriguez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Fonseca.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rodriguez has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Fonseca off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

As Rodriguez tries to get set, Fonseca tries to push him back and clinch up but Rodriguez manages to avoid the attempt.
Rodriguez ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Rodriguez shoots for a double leg takedown but Fonseca sprawls well. He's pushed Rodriguez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Fonseca counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fonseca drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fonseca jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Fonseca is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fonseca stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rodriguez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fonseca drops back looking for a leg! Rodriguez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rodriguez manages to kick Fonseca off! Fonseca jumps back into Rodriguez's guard.
Fonseca postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rodriguez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Fonseca, into his guard.
Rodriguez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Fonseca looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Fonseca looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Fonseca!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rodriguez can't do much from the bottom here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Fonseca takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

and Fonseca counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Fonseca in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Rodriguez tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Fonseca!
