PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Storm (ranked 3983 p4p, 3831 weight class) and Mason Marmot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mason Marmot looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alex Storm!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mason Marmot !
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Michael Johnstone and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Storm dives in for a single leg takedown but Marmot sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Marmot misses with a hook to the ribs.
Storm goes for a takedown attempt but Marmot pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Storm lands a jab to the head.
Storm shoots for a double leg takedown but Marmot sprawls well. He's pushed Storm's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Marmot throws a big counter head kick but Storm avoids it with no problem.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Storm. That's going to take a lot out of him.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Storm is looking to regain half guard here but Marmot keeps moving and retains side control.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Marmot working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Storm tries to improve position but can't.
Marmot in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Storm regains half guard there - taking advantage of Marmot 's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Marmot prevents Storm from improving his position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Storm trying to control but Marmot postures up.

Storm is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Marmot pulls his head out easily.
Marmot is trying to control the action in half guard but Storm is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Storm clinches up with Marmot and pushes him back against the cage.
Storm tries to pull guard but Marmot holds him up against the cage and eventually Storm drops back down to his feet.
Marmot fails to pull guard.

Storm breaks the clinch.
Marmot fails with a takedown attempt.

Storm closes the distance and clinches.

Storm wants a takedown.

Storm pulls guard successfully.
Marmot showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Storm manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Storm shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Marmot pinned against the cage. Marmot gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Marmot tries to bum rush Storm with a series of wild strikes but Storm uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Marmot gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Storm.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Storm dominated that round.
That's time! Storm's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Marmot crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Storm - the referee stops the clock and Marmot gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Storm. Marmot manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Storm has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Storm is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Marmot defends well.
Marmot is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Storm escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Marmot gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Storm keeping moving, preventing Marmot from controlling successfully.
Storm is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Storm will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Storm isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Marmot stacks Storm on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Marmot !
Storm is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Mason Marmot has got the better of the ground game so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Storm tries to bench press Marmot off him but Marmot keeps the position.
Storm is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Marmot off and has taken his back!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Storm is not going to allow Marmot to sit and survive in this position.
Marmot is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Storm is looking to control Marmot but Marmot is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Storm really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Storm is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Marmot has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Storm is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Marmot defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Storm fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Marmot avoids it really well and circles away.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Marmot lands a nice short elbow.

Marmot looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Marmot is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Storm has a hand on Marmot 's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Marmot takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Storm tries to lock up and control but Marmot gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Marmot is landing with some decent strikes but Storm is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Storm is trying desperately to improve position.
Marmot looking to control but Storm is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Storm is looking to improve his position but Marmot isn't that keen on the idea.
Marmot landing strikes from the mount and Storm is in trouble!

Marmot looking to control but Storm is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Storm tries to hold on but Marmot postures up.

Marmot goes for an armbar but Storm turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Storm.
Storm is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mason Marmot comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Storm has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
