PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 2582 p4p, 3248 weight class) and Luke Glanton (ranked 391 p4p, 476 weight class). Gracie comes into the arena with Jiu Jitsu by Smoke Serpent blaring out of the sound system. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Glanton!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Glanton gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Glanton pulls Gracie in close to prevent any damage.
Gracie passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Glanton is looking to regain half guard here but Gracie keeps moving and retains side control.
Glanton is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Glanton is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gracie's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gracie's back!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Glanton looking to control but Gracie is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Glanton is trying to take his opponent's back.
Glanton trying to control but Gracie is having none of it.

Glanton swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Gracie is now in Glanton's guard. A big mistake from Glanton there, giving up the dominant position!
Glanton is pulling down on Gracie's head. It's preventing any offense from Gracie, at least for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Glanton can't keep his opponent in guard - Gracie advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Glanton is trying to control but can't.
Glanton wants to control but Gracie passes into side.
Glanton has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Gracie swings around for an armbar but Glanton sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gracie's guard.
Glanton stands and throws Gracie's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Glanton trying to control the position but Gracie is working away.
Glanton in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Glanton tries to advance to mount but can't.
Glanton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gracie tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Glanton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Glanton is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Glanton controlling the position.
Glanton wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gracie keeps working.
Gracie tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Glanton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Glanton taking a break here but Gracie is having none of it and regains half guard.

Glanton is looking for a kimura but Gracie is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Glanton to get the leverage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Luke Glanton will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Glanton ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Glanton throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Glanton gets caught napping as Gracie dives in and scores a takedown. Glanton manages to retain guard.
Glanton pulls Gracie in close to prevent any damage.
Gracie passes Glanton's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Glanton has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.
Glanton is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Gracie is staying active.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Glanton is trying to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Glanton is looking to escape.
Gracie is thwarting Glanton's attempts to control the position.
Glanton is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Glanton wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Gracie is now in half guard.
Glanton wants to control the action here but instead Gracie manages to pass to full mount!
Glanton is trying desperately to improve position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie moves to the back.
You can see the frustration on Glanton's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Gracie has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Glanton is in real trouble here. Gracie gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Glanton is tapping out! Gracie wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Royce Gracie!
A relieved looking Royce Gracie thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
