PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Jones (ranked 2035 p4p, 4079 weight class) and Yoji Anjo Anjo (ranked 275 p4p, 506 weight class). Alex Jones is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yoji Anjo Anjo!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Anjo on his heels. He'll look to pass Anjo's guard now, I'm sure.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Jones postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Jones throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Anjo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Anjo on the ground.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones throws an elbow that misses. Anjo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jones's guard. Nice move by Anjo!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Anjo stands and throws Jones's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Anjo is chipping away with strikes.
Anjo wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.
Anjo throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Jones works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Anjo stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Jones to get to his feet.

Anjo drives through with a takedown into Jones's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Anjo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Anjo told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Anjo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Anjo swings around for an armbar but Jones sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Anjo's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Anjo creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jones sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Anjo passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Jones!
Anjo wants to control the pace but Jones is squirming around nicely.

Jones avoids a series of strikes thrown by Anjo.

Anjo goes for an armbar but Jones turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Jones.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Anjo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jones moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Anjo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Anjo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Anjo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yoji Anjo Anjo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Jones bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've been hearing that Jones has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Jones postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Jones is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Anjo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Jones goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Anjo rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Jones's guard! Nice work there by Anjo!
Anjo wants to get up but he can't break Jones's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Anjo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Jones not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alex Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Anjo is looking to work some ground and pound but Jones has wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Anjo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jones.
Anjo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Anjo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Anjo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jones as he avoids it easily.

Jones stops Anjo from getting back to his feet.
Yoji Anjo Anjo is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
