Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thorvald Nansen (ranked 797 p4p, 1401 weight class) and Roland Spliffs (ranked 105 p4p, 197 weight class). Nansen's entrance music is Benny Jamz - Torden. A fine choice. Spliffs has chosen Smoke Some Weed by Ice Cube as his entrance music. Roland Spliffs has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thorvald Nansen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roland Spliffs!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Sam Margolis and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nansen throws a lazy right hand but Spliffs sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Spliffs throws a quick inside leg kick.
Spliffs tries a head kick but it misses.
Nansen gets a clinch.
Nansen works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Spliffs is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nansen is aware though and is defending well.

Nansen lands a couple of digs.
Spliffs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nansen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Spliffs is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Nansen defends well.
Nansen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Spliffs has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nansen has managed to get both his arms back between Spliffs's legs - danger averted.

Nansen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Spliffs is holding on to half guard well.

Nansen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Spliffs knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Nansen winds up and cracks Spliffs with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Nansen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Spliffs felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Nansen passes into side control, despite Spliffs's attempt to control the position.

Spliffs wants to control but Nansen postures up.
Nansen advances to mount.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Spliffs sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Nansen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Spliffs does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Nansen drops an elbow to the side of Spliffs's head.
Spliffs wants to improve his position but Nansen is controlling well.

Nansen is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Nansen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Nansen passes Spliffs's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Spliffs is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Nansen scores with a couple of nice shots.

Nansen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Nansen working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Spliffs's thigh. Spliffs counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Spliffs working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nansen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nansen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Nansen is looking to advance position but Spliffs has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Spliffs has control of Nansen's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Nansen regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Nansen bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Spliffs throws a leg kick
and Nansen counters with a three punch combo that has Spliffs backing up. Spliffs nods at Nansen to acknowledge the strikes.
Spliffs displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nansen throws out the jab.
Nansen throws a head kick but Spliffs moves out of range.
Spliffs needs to keep his hands up - Nansen had a free shot at his head there.
Nansen tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Nansen is looking to chop away at Spliffs's legs.
Nansen looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Nansen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Spliffs can do to turn this around?
Nansen loads up on a big right hand but Spliffs slips the punch.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Nansen.

This has been an exciting period of action!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nansen is working to tighten his grip on Spliffs's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Spliffs has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Nansen is really squeezing tight and eventually Spliffs passes out! Nansen breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
